Sure was. Don’t mind at all - it was about 22 degrees. This was during a major heatwave that consumed Vancouver island for about a week a few years back. Really did a number on most the population, but for me, it was some of the greatest days I’ve had on the water here on Vancouver island. Funny how your perspective really dictates your experience.

There are several important safety techniques to help prevent this from happening. First, always check the wind and weather forecasts before heading out, as storms or unpredictable winds can be dangerous. When kiteboarding, make sure to wear a flotation device and carry a safety knife to cut lines if they get tangled. If you do get dragged far from shore, you can ‘depower’ the kite by pulling the quick-release, which will reduce the wind’s pull. Lastly, try to stay calm and use your board as a flotation device until help arrives. It’s also a good idea to kiteboard with a buddy or have someone on shore who can keep an eye on you. Stay safe out there and enjoy the adventure!
