Thank you for posting this excellent presentation. I am so sorry I missed this live back in June. I have a few questions I would have loved to ask. I have had a respectful fear of ethnic and cultural forms of nationalism (as opposed to civic/liberal nationalism) since my teenage years and seeing the former Yugoslavia destroy itself on the news. I had a great teacher Madame Lafleur who explored nationalism in depth with us in Grade 10 history comparing Civic/Liberal Nationalism versus Cultural and Ethnic Nationalisms. Both Ethnic and Cultural nationalisms can be too easily coopeted to manipulate people to scapegoat minorities and destroy liberal democracy. As Mr.Pandya explains here Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are using cultural nationalism to trample Indian citizens rights. Nowhere is that clearer than in Kashmir. The attack on reason and science during the COVID19 Pandemic has also been so brutal. Modi and the BJP’s weighing the politics rather than the science and this leads to tens of thousands of needless deaths from the Delta variant. The opposition to the BJP in India appears to be in complete disarray and too busy infighting to be able to protect liberal democracy in India. Vox’s Podcast Worldly did addressed that as well as most of the issues Mr. Pandya does here and offers other very good insights. I would recommend it to you if you want to get a even more in depth understanding of the situation in India. How many of us remember when heading into the 2015 fall election some Canadian Politicians were trying to attach themselves to the popularity of Narenda Modi within some portions of the Hindu diaspora here in Canada to try to winback some of the ground they had lost in some ridings across Canada. Even back then that seemed so very irresponsible and dangerous to me. So scary. Narcissism is a very serious personality disorder that is HIGHLY destructive, it is pervasive and leaves deep scars behind. A Narcissist should not be trusted and are often toxic with an excessive need for admiration, disregard for others feelings, an inability to handle any criticism and a sense of entitlement. I used to think that love could cure anything but it only fed my narc's enormous ego.
