It may be a failed program. Even today March 2024 the F-35 is endanger of being canceled. The latest software upgrade and engine upgrade can not be completed until the a separate software program called TR1-Refreah is installed. There are major problems with this software refresh program. As a result the F-35 has all but stopped production to wait for the software bugs to be fixed and installed. Keep in mind even after the software refresh is fixed and installed the block 4 upgrade will need to be installed. Right now the software refresh is more than a year behind schuedle. The inability to correct and install the software refresh has resulted in Ted in a backlog of new F-35 that will need the software installed. Right now in March 2024 the F-35 production line in in danger of being stopped because the new software needed to fly is simply not ready. Huge clusterfuck.
