I think you might do better if you used the 12 speed box as it was designed to be used, why do you not use the handbrake?

What's the story behind the engine? What carrier? How was it acquired? Any details? This is pretty cool!
@FodenS3611 ай бұрын
I don’t know which carrier, it ended up in Australia after the war and worked there driving machinery. There was a info board on display with the engine but can’t remember the finer details.

My goodness! What a sound. I'd love to have one of them Fodens. Too bad there aren't any where i'm from. Also 100th like!!! Is that an Eaton box or something else? It seems to go well with that old Cummins. Are the diffs from Foden (tandem drive)? I wonder what it can reach. It looks like it will do about 45mph. I hope the old girl is still going strong to this day. Stay safe buddy and keep er going.
@FodenS36 Жыл бұрын
In my slightly biased opinion this is the best sounding truck out there :) It’s a Foden 12 speed transmission with Cummins 220 engine. Fodens Diffs double drive with double reduction hubs plated for 80tons. I haven’t done much over 40 but have been told by an ex driver it was capable of 60mph+ if you are brave enough. Still going strong 💪 Thank you.

Aahh, the good old days, plastic grp cabs, draughty, no heaters, no radios, no power steering, hard unsprung seats, bad brakes, heavy clutches, double declutching on gear changes and so noisy at the end of the day it took took about 4 hours get my hearing back, eh what? what did you say pet? I remember them well.

Fowlers 15198 & (15199 in the vid) were operated by Beeby brothers of Rempstone who bought the pair as original steam engines but at some point after ww2 they were converted in house by fitting inline 6 cylinder Mercedes diesel engines which came from lorry's captured by the allies. the pair were used into the 50's for dredging work and were finally sold by Beeby's in 1986 i think via auction to Basil Gibbons who still owns and works the pair today and that is Basil driving the engine in the vid. there are 5 other pairs of diesel converted fowler ploughing engines, 2 pairs fitted with 6-71 Detroit diesels converted after ww2, 2 pairs with straight 6 Mclaren diesels converted in the 30's and 1 pair fitted with 4 cylinder Mclaren diesels. all were used for dredging work from when they were converted to the late 70's.

That’s great, thank you. I knew I’d seen some with Mclaren engines and wasn’t sure if that was this one or not, thanks for the info.
