Those Perkins 6.354 engines are bloody good engines. I had one in a 40ft seagoing boat, never had a moments trouble with it. At 1,750rpm it would burn a gallon an hour. The boat wasn't terribly fast (9 - 10 knots) but it had the power of a tug boat! They are a nice sounding engine.

It took some getting going but is getting better every run and starting to sound sweet

Be careful running that set under speed unless you've taken the fuse out of the AVR board in the generator end. I would think it should be 1500 ,- 1530 rpm

Needs a good run on the loadbank to get all the oil & carbon cleared out

Did you get any idea of the electrical output? It sounds like it’s running slow as if the governor isn’t working right or perhaps not adjusted properly. Sort that out and you can see about the rest of the generating gear.

I had the revs turned down, not tested the generator side yet but it’s rated at 75KVA

That T6354.4 looks a pretty fair engine for how long it's stood, looked and sounded like a fuel system and general service should do it a power of good, then wants running under load and on boost to clear the insides out and it should be a good generator pack.

@@FodenS36 I’ve no firm evidence to support it but ATF has a very strong detergent package. A bit in the fuel should help loosen up the clag a bit.

Sorry mate never driven one so very much intrigued! How do you fetch the 12 out of what looks to be 4 gates. Are you footing the clutch halfway and all the way once you’ve flicked the selector on the column. Cheers mate great vid 👍🏼
@FodenS36
@FodenS36 2 ай бұрын
It’s Fodens own gearbox, 4 on the gearstick and 3 range change on the column. 4 low range, then 4 direct each with an overdrive. So empty you can not use the low at all. So 1D 1H 2D 2H etc. takes a bit of getting your head around but it good when you do. Yes you clutch after you’ve flicked the selector from direct to high. To change from high down the direct you can just blip the throttle. It all gets more interesting with a load, I could only imagine what it was like with 80ton behind 😂

What's the story behind the engine? What carrier? How was it acquired? Any details? This is pretty cool!

I don’t know which carrier, it ended up in Australia after the war and worked there driving machinery. There was a info board on display with the engine but can’t remember the finer details.

My goodness! What a sound. I'd love to have one of them Fodens. Too bad there aren't any where i'm from. Also 100th like!!! Is that an Eaton box or something else? It seems to go well with that old Cummins. Are the diffs from Foden (tandem drive)? I wonder what it can reach. It looks like it will do about 45mph. I hope the old girl is still going strong to this day. Stay safe buddy and keep er going.
@FodenS36
@FodenS36 Жыл бұрын
In my slightly biased opinion this is the best sounding truck out there :) It’s a Foden 12 speed transmission with Cummins 220 engine. Fodens Diffs double drive with double reduction hubs plated for 80tons. I haven’t done much over 40 but have been told by an ex driver it was capable of 60mph+ if you are brave enough. Still going strong 💪 Thank you.
