Hi Debbie :) I was wondering if there was a way to stitch a border as a % of it’s original size so that all pieces fit perfectly in the given length. Like your 14” pieces almost fit but were a smidge long, so maybe reduce them to like 95%? I’m not sure this is something that can be done. I know the width would be narrower but not so noticeable on such a teeny % change. Curious. TY.
@diydebbi4 күн бұрын
Yes you could probably make those adjustments in software...I didn't because I wanted the. border to be as large as possible to fill up the fabric, and also some ends up in the seam allowance so you would have to try and get very precise to get it t fit just right.

Hi Debbie :) If you had to pick 3 hoops what seems to be your most important ones?
@diydebbi4 күн бұрын
I use my 7x12 all the time, because if I am doing a block that fits the 5x7 hoop, I can turn it sideways and it helps me save on stabilizer. My machine came with a 9.25x14 and a 5x7, so I purchased a set of "off brand" hoops (4x4, 6x10, 7x12 and I think a super small one, like 1.5x2" or something). My machine doesn't have a 7x12 in the settings, so thats why I use the 8x12 setting and always move the design as far left as I can in the hoop (I've mentioned that on some videos). I do use my 9x14 most after the 7x12 and then the 5x7, but definitely my 7x12 the most.
@JoyfulStitching4 күн бұрын
TY Im getting a machine and want to fill in some sizes, the machine goes from a 4 x 4 to 5 x 7 hen a 10x 10, so definitely some missing spots. What do you think of magnetic hoops?

@@JoyfulStitching I just bought an off brand magnetic hoop but I haven't used it, I got the biggest one I could get that wasn't made by brother, it's an 8x12. I need to try it out. Well done on finishing your blanket. Love how you have made your own finishing touches to it. I have just finished the blanket just going to start the fringes. I ran out of wool so had to wait till i got more.. Maybe just buy the pom pom trim as it looks so good on yours. Regards from Scotland.

You can find all the videos on the knitsirdar youtube or if you go to sirdar.com, then Make-along, you can find the written patterns as well (the patterns are written in UK terms as well as the videos, so make sure to use US terms if needed)
@LadynRed56Ай бұрын
I have to ask this because what I see in your panels here is not what I read in the pattern. Per the pattern, the peppermint stripes on top of the green sections actually stop short on one edge by maybe 20 (?) stitches. Did you just run them all the way across the end instead?? I'm currently working on Week 4, and I was trying to figure out how those shortened strips sections actually fit together with the rest of the parts.
@diydebbiАй бұрын
Edit.... Yes in the original pattern the lights section comes to 90 stitches and the panels are 98 stitches (or something like that)....but mine were like 3-4" too short so I did a few extra rounds on the lights panel in just the cream (ended up doing 4 more rounds which made my counts the same). If I had only been slightly off, then I would have done the pattern like hers, but mine were way shorter. I hope that helps.

Hi Thanks for this! I had a question about the red border - I believe it's supposed to be 59 stitches on each side but mine looks crowded. Is that going to make the white section wonky?
@diydebbi2 ай бұрын
It will come out wonky after you finish the borders around the house. I ended up just spraying mine with water and blocking to even it out a bit, but she did mention in the video that it won't be straight and that it will work out when you start the white section. So you should be good.

Great ideas using purples. Wish I had thought of same. I too slowed machine to 350. I wonder if purple King Star metallic would have worked. But maybe the density of the design could have been problematic.

You'll love using the cut out applique pieces - they are fun and easy to use. I'm still learning the scanNcut but love it even more, the more I use it. I am going to try putting heat N bond lite on the back (along with the fusible interfacing) next time I cut some things out. That way I can iron the applique piece down and skip the tack down (since sometimes that only catches a little bit of the cut out piece anyway).

Hi Debbi :). I was wondering a couple things. When scan n cut measures the depth is is seeing the tape at all if it takes a measure point on the tape? Next I was wondering if for like the bats without a svg. Could you make a fast svg from the placement stitch? TY love watching your videos !
@diydebbi4 ай бұрын
I think the tape is so thin it seems to not make too much of a difference BUT if you want to avoid that, then put the tape and fabric down farther from the top of the mat, as it always tests the mat at the top. For the raw edge applique I think they don't include an svg because as carefully as you put on the cut-out shape, it won't usually be perfect and since there is no other stitching it would be harder to place it evenly for the tack down and have a nice even edge around the entire piece (hope that makes sense, because when I first started I wondered the same thing)
@JoyfulStitching4 ай бұрын
Oh yeah, that makes sense yes. Oh i saw those lace bats are they an add on or where are they coming from ?

@@JoyfulStitching Yes they are some cute 3D elements and that is coming soon. There is one more regular block to finish and then it's time for the felt and lace bats. I am putting both bats into one video since they are so fast and easy. That will be up next week.

Loved this tutorial TY You are definitely teaching me to think of other ways to do things. Along that thought: would it have been possible to have used a thin dbl sided iron on to add between gauze and fabric then cut the shapes on the scan and cut? ALSO loved the new those shape, so cute and I think I’ll give it some go also. TY again
@diydebbi4 ай бұрын
possibly...I would only worry that some might seep through the gauze, but the gauze that came with the embellishment kit was a little thicker and we do use two layers, so something like heat and bond lite would probably work. Since mine was yellow from the starch, the gauze I used from my first aid kit was a little thinner. I am going to try heat and bond lite on some of my scanNcut applique pieces (not this quilt as everything has already been cut - that's coming up next)
@JoyfulStitching4 ай бұрын
I was surprised that yellowed so much. OH awesome I can’t wait to see what you’re doing next !

I absolutely agree that looks so much better! Glad I saw this before I did mine. I’m not sure yet If I’d be brave enough to change that or think or it. I also see the white bobbin on black fabrics. You have zero problem with tension it stitches perfectly. Do you tension your machine yourself? I didn’t sweet a speck of white on the front.
@diydebbi4 ай бұрын
No, I have never changed the tension on my machine (granted I am pretty new to embroidery and my machine is less than a year old, but I have always heard to never touch the tension on an embroidery machine. I don't change the tension on my sewing machine either). I only change the bobbin color when the directions say to...and it's mostly when doing lettering. Otherwise I always keep a white pre-wound bobbin in.

I love this mat! I got it from A1vacuum and sewing in Reno, you can google and find them. She also does kimberbell videos. If you purchase from their website, you will get charged shipping and if it seems high, don't worry, they always refund any overage once they determine the actual cost of the shipping. I have tried a few other rotating mats and this one is definitely a game changer. It isn't cheap but it's sooo worth the cost!
