Goodness! Never knew that there were any updates to the Z after Tyler sold it back. I am a big fan of this 80s cheese wedge. Have an aspen gold 1985 Z31.

I was thinking the drain tubes are plugged, if there are any in the T-Top channels 3:42. I also remembered how the water would pour in through the hatch seals in my 280Z after a car wash.

I wonder if your injectors were replaced do to the recall if not you are owed 6 free injectors.
@dentron98852 жыл бұрын
The harness is redone with the yellow tape i dicating it so it had the injector recall work. But I was lied to when they said they redid the rest of the fuel system.

Yikes. Well at least you can pour transmission fluid in there and it won't spread.

Yeah, but then atf would leak out on my driveway over time with would be uncool, plus it needs to coat the upper parts. I found cans of that Eastwood companies frame rust encapsulator with the long spray hose used for stuff like this, so hopefully I can stop the rust from getting any worse.

I hope this restoration works out well for you. I have had several of these cars and I love them. I had a black/blue and silver metallic 5-speed but I sold it in 2016 to a guy in Galveston Texas. I have a Silver 84 Turbo now with 71,800 miles and the body is a good base, but it's an automatic. It's also stalling on cold start unless giving it the gas, and when you do give it the gas it hesitates and stutters. I ran the ECU codes and I keep getting 22 Fuel Pump Circuit. I ordered a PF-1100 fuel filter from K&N and I'm going to test the fuel pressure before and after replacement. I'm not sure I'll keep it because I'd like to get another 5-speed but we'll see what happens. Please keep us updated on your progress. Maybe I will want to buy this one too :)

I was actually making an update video today and things are finally looking up. And sorry, but once I get this car nice its staying with me, I have spent quite a few hours on this already. Im sure you understand lol. Good luck on yours though!
@jdmlegends30092 жыл бұрын
@@dentron9885 Yeah, I definitely get it. If spent that much time on one of these it'd be hard to give it up. I hope your able to find the parts you need as it's hard since many of them are discontinued. I am sure you will make it real nice thought because I can tell you are determined. I am happy someone is keeping these cars on the road and thanks for your wishes.
@jdmlegends30092 жыл бұрын
@@dentron9885 By the way, since you have it all torn down you might want to send the cams into Colt Cams and have them regrind them to Euro/Nismo spec. They have the same lift as the USDM spec, but higher duration for intake and exhaust. That coupled with no EGR and no cat gave the Euro Z31s 230 horsepower. Something I always wanted to do if I had the extra cash and found someone competent to do it.

Hey man. You're pretty lucky whit that rust. I got a 1992 isuzu trooper 3.1 tdi That came from a country full of salt and snow so it got frame rust,body rust and now its leaking tons of oil from my air intake and got tons of blow by i also got a dacia nova 1.6 gti whit no papers that i got really cheap but the body is gone the whole engine is full of rust (especial where the colant flows) and old oil but still ran somehow i can make a video if it to show al the rust and the engine you will be impresed . I also got an old cadillac seville 4.6 northstar whit no papers at all that sits outside since 7 years and dosent start anymore cuz mice fucked up the electric sismtem , last time it ran smoke was coming out of the vents and now you cant even conect the terminals. Good luck whit youre z and im glad you saved it
@ErikDB62 жыл бұрын
Props to you, sir, for taking on a project that Hoovie wimped out on. This car is definitely saveable. I’ve subscribed and look forward to watching you bring this old gem back on the road.

Might as well upgrade the turbo now. The one you mentioned isn't so powerful that you'll need to upgrade everything else now but it will enable much more horsepower if you do go that route. Good luck.
@dentron98852 жыл бұрын
Yeah the only thing with upgrading is I will have to get an aftermarket boost controller and gauge mounted to make sure I dont overdo the boost (maybe I can make my own 80s style display since I'm an electronics guy and have made some digital gauges before) I want to avoid deleting my AC with running an intercooler though, but I am not going for crazy power anyways.

Awesome, thanks for the update! You going to be doing any power mods or leaving it all stock?
@dentron98852 жыл бұрын
Its more of a restore, but it sorta depends if the turbo is rebuildable or not. If I rebuild it and it appears fine, I will just leave it stock, otherwise I will probably swap with a more modern similar size turbo in the same spot.
@RollinwithRoland2 жыл бұрын
@@dentron9885, I'm debating that very thing myself with the '86 Turbo GLL I'm restoring. I know these VG30s can handle 400hp on the stock internals, and that would make quite the fun car.
@dentron98852 жыл бұрын
@@RollinwithRoland Oh for sure, they are solid blocks and I thought about going for 300+. However, I wanted to keep AC and such, and that gets really hard to near impossible when trying to fit an intercooler and reposition the turbo to fit a big one. I know you can run a bigger T3/T4 hybrid turbo in the stock spot, but cranking the boost too much will lead to heat issues, so you cant go too crazy with it.
@Random-fs8tc2 жыл бұрын
Awesome

As far as Z31 rust goes, that isn't terrible and the car is totally salvageable. Get that timing belt replaced ASAP if you're not sure when it was done last, interference engine go boom otherwise. Love the car and looking forward to more content, just start recording in LANDSCAPE! =D
@dentron98852 жыл бұрын
For sure on the timing belt, I was starting the car as little as possible because of it. Engine is coming out for the turbo soon anyways, so itll be extremely easy once its out, along with everything else around it like seals and water pump. And yeah I will definitely do landscape next time, I didnt even think about it when recording.
