Does it have a winch attachment?
@DemcoRV

Good morning! The Kar Kaddy SS comes with 2 winches for securing the tire straps for the vehicle on the dolly. Demco does have an optional loading winch part number KK2W that can be bolted onto the tongue of the tow dolly.

@DemcoRV ok good, because I was wondering as u can imagine sometimes when doing a tow the keys may not be present or the car is out of gas so I'd need a winch to pull the car onto the dolly.

This video is very helpful. I bought my hitch last fall. I have taken the hitch out several times now to haul other things in my truck. This video helps me through the process of reinstalling it. I like this video better than written instructions. Also One thing about owning this hitch is that your truck box is grease free!!! And that hitch is out in just a few minutes!

I’m noticing that the length from the center of the coupler to the end of the set screws is approximately 7.5 inches after they have been torqued to 85ft/lbs. is this correct?
@DemcoRV
@DemcoRV 6 ай бұрын
Yes, that is correct. One of our requirements for installation in the recessed goose pocket is a minimum of 7-1/2” from the center of the goose ball to the rear (bumper) side of the recessed pocket. You may have to determine height and adjust it tightening up the set screws prior to installation onto the goose ball if you are right at the minimum 7-1/2” of clearance.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Always bleed brakes by using the top bleed screw on the caliper. Bottom bleeder screw was loosened in video for reference only. More information can be found here on page 22: cdn.demco-products.com/documents/Manuals/RD20025.pdf#page=22

Shouldn't he be bleeding the top bleed valve? Air could be trapped on the top of the cylinder.

We say in the manual, “Demco 5th wheel hitches are designed for use with recreational fifth wheel trailers only.” If you want to give us a call and talk to one of our in house experts about this more in detail, please call 1.800.543.3626

I have a 2017 2500 with the 6ft bed. Will this work considering it is not a sliding hitch?
@DemcoRV
@DemcoRV Жыл бұрын
It really depends on the trailer being pulled. Let me explain: 5th Wheel RV’s are 96 or 101 inches in width. You didn’t mention what brand your 2500 was. Depending on make, a 2017 - 2500 with the 6-1/2’ truck bed will only have 34-36 inches of clearance between the truck cab and center of the rear axle of the truck. (King pin is centered over the rear axle.) You need to turn 48” to 50.5” (half the width of the trailer) into a 34”-36” space. The only way to accomplish that is by using a sliding 5th wheel hitch or a short bed friendly trailer with an extended pin box and rounded or cut out corners to clear the truck cab. A majority of RV’s need a sliding 5th wheel hitch. As mentioned, there are a few trailers on the market that are “short bed friendly”. I would suggest discussing with your dealer the capability of the trailer for use with a short bed truck.

Why such a light torque on the tension bolt to the ball? Would have thought this would be much higher torque value. Any issue with the base plate turning on the bed?
@DemcoRV
@DemcoRV Жыл бұрын
Tightening the 5/8” bolt to 30 ft pounds of torque places approximately 2800 pounds of force spread out over the base of the hitch. This torque coupled with the tongue weight of the trailer are enough to keep the hitch from turning on the bed of the truck. Too much torque on the 5/8” bolt coupled with the tongue weight could damage the hitch base overtime.

@@DemcoRV No its not,,, what do you recommend when the hitch turns? i pulled a fifth wheel 10 miles and when i got there the hitch was turned on the the ball. The bolt was tightened to 30 ft lbs.

@@scoserv I have this hitch (not on a flatbed) on a B&W turnover ball. After one of my first tows, I noticed the base twisted about 1/2 an inch. I believe it happened while I was backing down my steep driveway at somewhat extreme turning angles (maybe 60 degrees?). I called demco and they recommended I torque it to 40. I saw on another KZbin video, demco related you can go all the way up to 70. The 40 worked for me. After 3 years, I still love my hitch. Longest drive I've towed was from Central Coast of California to Zion/Bryce in Utah. No issues whatever.

Thank you for the video! I have the older version with only one set screw, set at 100ft/lbs. Also, the ball couple screw was suggested to be torqued to 40ft/lbs after my base spun off center, by maybe an inch. No issues since. Love my hitch.
