I've worked with fire & ice on several different clay bodies and have achieved very nice results. On pure white clay bodies or white engobe it is nearly cyan when thin and deep blue/red when thick. On dark clay bodies, it has a gorgeous cobalt waterfall effect when laid on thickly, and it forms nice thick gloopy drips. I was using New Mexico ChoCoLate clay. This video really doesn't do the glaze justice. Please upload the layering results to to the Amaco layering database!

I am so excited for these. I actually ordered some dark chocolate yesterday! If it works for what I’m making, I’m probably gonna go back for some milk chocolate 🥰

I fire @ cone 6 and usually the higher temp. increases matt. Thank you for telling/showing us that with this glaze it's the reverse. I was also anticipating a purple on the order of Amaco Celedon's or Mayco's Lavender Mist. This glaze is a beautiful blue but it sure isn't purple. When I'm looking for a really good, matt, mid-blue I'll now know to turn to this one.

There is no pic of the finished fire and ice piece you glazed?

Just be careful with Blue Midnight, when thick enough to produce a beautiful blue, can be very runny. I just had a disaster on my kiln shelf with this glaze at cone 5.5. Nothing else ran in my full kiln.

What is the firing temperature of the glazes? can I get these results with a 1100 degree oven?
@geopat4298Ай бұрын
Very disappointed that I invested 20 minutes to watch this process, without being shown the end result. I can only assume one thing from your decision to leave out the finished piece: It ended up looking like crap.

I know this is a little late to the game. but what part of the assembly costs $160 USD (hello from 2024). I says this because I need to replace this part and there is nothing special about the electronics or assembly. I'm going to 3d print my own with blackjack and hookers.

for the "painterly technique", does each color of the velvet need to dry before the next color is applied? and is the glaze fire really to cone 05 rather than to cone 5?

What if my studio kiln has a 30minute hold programmed into it? Will this change the outcome of the glaze?
@AMACOBrentАй бұрын
A 30 minute hold is long enough to push the heat work of the kiln a cone hotter than what you programmed (for example, a cone 5 on medium speed with a 30 minute hold will bend a cone 6). If you plan to use a long hold you may want to program a cone lower than what you want your final outcome to be. A long hold like this will create a very slow ramp, which can help with pinholes and blistering.
@gamezrosalba2 ай бұрын
How do you prevent blisters? I fired at cone 6 with beautiful results but it blistered. No open pin holes
