is the mixing clear acting as a clear coat because there is underglaze? If you use just using celadons it does not require a clear coat?

“Silkscreen over a stiff glaze…” ?? Is this correct? You can use over a glaze? Thanks.
@AMACOBrent14 күн бұрын
You can! The key is that it needs to be a stiff glaze such as a Teacher's Palette Glaze or a Celadon or Satin Matte.

@micheledickey406616 күн бұрын
These are underglazes correct? So a clear coat is needed on top for shine!
@AMACOBrent15 күн бұрын
Yes! A clear coat would need to be applied for a smooth, glossy finish. LG-10 Clear Transparent would be a great gloss for low fire clays and HF-10 Clear would be a great option for using high fire clays.

@DuckleyDoesArt Does it look dull? How about crazing? Haha I hope u reply, I'm rly interested in pottery but firing kiln is so far from my place 🥹
@DuckleyDoesArt9 күн бұрын
@ it looks more dull without clear glaze, but will gain a richer color with clear glaze over it. As far as crazing if you follow the instructions on your bottle of glaze it should not craze. However there are some other factors with clay compatibility (it may say on the bottle what clay to use) that can cause crazing, and sometimes it's just something that happens over time. All the pictures on selling websites should show what the glaze looks like with and without clear glaze over it!

I've worked with fire & ice on several different clay bodies and have achieved very nice results. On pure white clay bodies or white engobe it is nearly cyan when thin and deep blue/red when thick. On dark clay bodies, it has a gorgeous cobalt waterfall effect when laid on thickly, and it forms nice thick gloopy drips. I was using New Mexico ChoCoLate clay. This video really doesn't do the glaze justice. Please upload the layering results to to the Amaco layering database!

I fire @ cone 6 and usually the higher temp. increases matt. Thank you for telling/showing us that with this glaze it's the reverse. I was also anticipating a purple on the order of Amaco Celedon's or Mayco's Lavender Mist. This glaze is a beautiful blue but it sure isn't purple. When I'm looking for a really good, matt, mid-blue I'll now know to turn to this one.

Just be careful with Blue Midnight, when thick enough to produce a beautiful blue, can be very runny. I just had a disaster on my kiln shelf with this glaze at cone 5.5. Nothing else ran in my full kiln.

What if my studio kiln has a 30minute hold programmed into it? Will this change the outcome of the glaze?
@AMACOBrent2 ай бұрын
A 30 minute hold is long enough to push the heat work of the kiln a cone hotter than what you programmed (for example, a cone 5 on medium speed with a 30 minute hold will bend a cone 6). If you plan to use a long hold you may want to program a cone lower than what you want your final outcome to be. A long hold like this will create a very slow ramp, which can help with pinholes and blistering.
@gamezrosalba3 ай бұрын
How do you prevent blisters? I fired at cone 6 with beautiful results but it blistered. No open pin holes
