Some vocal de-essers are using simple static EQ. Sometimes, this seems to emphasize or smear them more if chosen badly. Any advice and tips on improving voice recordings with lots of S and stuff?

Just so I'm understanding this... Is this why shelve eq sounds better than the LPF on my subs?

Fascinating stuff here… I bought my first IR”s as recommended by several folks from Ownhammer. Plunked them into their respective places in Apps like Helix and wound through them. Yes, I liked the Greenbacks best… but the CB (Curiosity Bell) got wrung when I saw the IR File types were musical and playable so I started listening to the IR’s. Your description above finally makes sense of these little dig bites, these finite harmonic pops. Now to listen for their saturation… maybe I’ll “record” one and slow it way down. There’s a world in a drop of water- there’s a universe in an IR. Thanks.

This is all super fascinating. I am hardly a pro when it comes to audio mixing or anything of the sort. I only started learning this stuff because I wanted to get better sounds for streaming-no one wants to listen to grating audio for very long. While your video talks a lot about EQ for a mix, what about things like podcasting or streaming? How do you EQ for an isolated voice? There are lots of videos out there, but I don't think many of them get as technical as this, and I LIKE technical. Even if I do not grasp every grain of concepts being thrown my way, it gives me a springboard to further research and understand.

I want to understand the basics of recording like this. Panning, EQ, compression, saturation, all of it. I'm flying blind out here😅 doing alright but don't fully understand what I'm doing or how to achieve certain outcomes.

This is an excellent video!!!!! Content like this makes producers better by understanding teh science to dictate their creative decisions and achieve their desired outcomes with less processing!! Nice one! It may not be your most successful video, but content like this is so useful!!!!!!! Niiiiiiiiiiiiccccccccccccceeeeeeeeeeeee

The secret to maximum loudness? maybe. The secret to sucking the very dynamic life completely out of your tracks...definitely! These stupid loudness wars need to end, its needlessly destroying the quality of music.

People forget that the term "mixing" itself is directly associated with equalizing. It's the blending of frequencies, and honestly the most (or one of the most) important thing(s) after the concept of recorded music was invented.

I haven't seen a video explaining where to set the low pass filter on a bass, if my lowest fundamental note is x should i leave an octave behind? Or how much 2 octaves? Should i cutright before my lowest fundamental? If i leave 1 octave before how lowd should it be in case of using a low shelf, thatll be a good video, i already know the answer but i had to learn the hard way 😅
