Dear me that's absolutely beautiful. What style is this? From the size of the larger pleachers it's giving me Pembs/Devon style, but it's so upright! Either way it looks like magic. Hats off to you sir.

Many thanks, This is all made/built with the existing hedge that is growing there. If you are going to plant hedge from new, some people plant for nature, things that produce fruit, nuts, flowers etc , others will plant for security anything thorn, holy maybe beech for a screen privacy etc. others just plant natural , what ever is growing in the local surroundings. It’s a dead hedge used like a wind break to stop the sands drifting, like in the first 3 scenes you can see brash laid out and covering the dunes again to stop the wind blowing or drifting the sand. There has been a thing in north Devon & Cornwall UK to lay out old Xmas trees in the dunes to stop the sands drifting.. Thank you for watching

Very nice. Interesting you lay in each direction. I had to do that because of a bald spot and felt I had done wrong. Most are layered up the hill. I suppose as long as the branches are not lower than the pleach it is OK. Amazing how thick some of the pleaches are. Is there a maximum? I guess not because my Beach is greening up and the break is 6 foot at least wide where it fell in the Winter. 😂

Yes 99% of the time all one direction (up hill) on occasion there might be need to lay the "other way" to fill in or cover a gap, but even then you could back lay to fill a gap and then still keep the main pleachers going the same way .

@G5XW yeh, its been pretty wet, but not that cold. I've only had to blow the water out of my hoses a couple of times this winter. Bring on summer.

@@G5XW aah. My stomping ground, wessex water jet Vac. I'm thinking to ask a farmer friend where I live up neer Salisbury if I can lay his well over stood hedges along the road. I can see it was layed many years ago and been flailed ever since. Ripe for the laying, as they say.

Sorry a very poor answer , BUT it all depends on what there is to start with, how much clearing out is required, size of materials, preP etc etc, old school rule was a chain a day (22yds) or 20m all but an inch or so, if your lucky some days you can double that others even 1/2 it, and of course a very import part of it is PRIDE in your work and time to get it right

Lovely. Blackthorns are lovely but they do have a nasty bite. Great for stock fencing. I wish the Welsh government would start by reinstating the ripped out hedges rather than the 10% woodland. Smashing hedges has ruined the old hedges just leaving the Hazel. I think the Blackthorn has been killed by the slurry or removed as it needs layering. Shame, the old ways were so good for wild life.

Love it. If you can it would be awsome to see a time laps of you laying one down. Would do really well in youtube short format. Just the nature sounds and you laying a hedge for 30sec. I'm from America, and i just planted a hedge myself :) thanks for inspiration

awsome work. I especially love when a few large trees are able to grow through a hedge. Lots of shade for livestock and provides habitat for even more fun creatures.
