Andy Partridge is a genius - I have loved xtc since 1982. Shame Apple Venus and Wasp Star their final 2 albums aren’t on Spotify.

In my family if you’re relaxed on holiday or enjoying a holiday event it’s tradition to turn to a family member and utter “like the words to that song”

Yeah, it doesn't sound like an early 00's song. They used it in Skins season 2 (2008) and I assumed it was a new song (also didn't realise at first it was XTC, so that was a cool surprise).

Got sheet music for this (paid for a personal transcription) if anyone wants a (free) copy.....? Jobriath was a total genius. I think his vocals (for the most part awesome but now and then ever so slightly a bit "strident") were the reason he never took off, (rather than due to any gay overtones). Btw, producer Eddie Kramer was/is a total A**HOLE! Tried a few times to ask him a few really simple questions about the sessions, but he ignored me. All he wants to do is crow that he produced Led Zeppelin a few times, blah blah blah. Yeah, but you still took the producer's fee, didn't you? LOSER!

Great memories of XTC. But, what struck me is what a brilliant song this is... compared the the stuff that is written today. Stupidly Happy.... this world's making sense. Songs should make you happy, not try to convince you of some political viewpoint.

This is my favorite Roxy Music single - from the intro onwards. Ferry was/is a brilliant writer in one of the greatest bands of all time. Phil Manzanera shines here, but truth be told there were no passengers in this band, with people like Andy Mackay, Paul Thompson, Eddie Jobson, Brian Eno and others - brilliant, brilliant band. Better than Bowie at their peak in my opinion. Apparently, Bowie shit himself when he heard the first Roxy Music album that was released the same week as Ziggy Stardust. Bowie always admired Ferry for his songwriting/style and Roxy Music for their balls. So do I.

Does anyone remember the bongs at the start of the ITN news programme back in the day? That's what the opening of this song puts me in mind of. Not that I'm mocking or ridiculing it in any way - I wouldn't do that. I think it's a fantastic pop tune, that's why I'm here listening to it.
