The production on this album totally screwed Fanny; took the aggressive energy out of their sound which they had live. Tried to make them into a pop band instead of a rock band.

Same here! That said, all of Cream's albums suffer from really crappy production values and audio engineering.

Almost always with Fanny the live versions sound better. They were really good players and songwriters - didn’t get anywhere as popular as they deserved to be.

Maybe I'm like Melvin Udall. I discovered Fanny in 1972 when I became intrigued by the cover of Mother's Pride and bought it. It turned out that I had bought an album by the greatest female rock band and I was among a privileged few who knew it. I loved the expression on friends' faces then they would hear Fanny for the first time.

Once again Fanny knocks out a great song. Check out Fanny's version of "Hey Bulldog." Whoever was their record label sucked and didn't promote this great band as well as they should have.

I saw Eric Clapton at the Montreal forum in the early 70s. He played Badge and when the band stopped for the iconic lead break, Eric paused for a long time before playing the lead break. The crowd went crazy, people were yelling "he's not going to play it!". Than he played it and forum went insane.

If I didn't know who was in this band and just heard the music without vocals, I could tell just from the solo it was a female playing it. Weak and uninspired

I was fortunate to see them in the early 1970s. June and Jean Millington, Nickey Barclay and Alice de Buhr, four women who could rock with any male group of the day. Check out their 4 albums on Reprise Records 1970-1973, not a weak track on any of them.

I was in bands during the late 60's and 70's and incredibly, never heard of this group until just a few years ago. There are several videos of them on KZbin playing live and they really kicked ass, big time. Each was an excellent musician, great on their instruments and they all sang quite well. I can't think of a band today this loaded with talent!

@@jhandle4196 You are probably right, but whats a "hit"? Being a hit song is about who's making the profit, not about talent. Thats why lots of the songs/music pumped around on radio stations or TV-shows, actually are shit, but someone makes the profit by owning rights...

This band were so good. If they were around now, they would be headliners throughout the world. Their musicianship was second to none. It seems people just weren’t ready for an all girl band that kicked the asses of the male groups of the time. Shame. My daughter plays guitar and I sent her videos of Fanny playing live. She was just blown away by them.

Whoever recorded this committed a crime! Fanny was such a tight band, and he tears it all apart with this sound. If in doubt, he should have recorded them in true mono, but with the punch that they had.

Love the track in general. Such a unique, yet strange and slightly out of place pop track that only every so slightly qualifies as such, as it is just a bit too weird for that. That being said: The version by Cream is more "out there" and also a bit more, let's say, clever, as it works more with strange pauses in between the verses and other strange tricks. The Fanny version is way more straightforward and less influenced by psychedelia. However, this is just a joyeous version with a great guitar solo that to my opinion however is cut way too short. Long story short: The Cream version makes me wonder, the Fanny version makes me smile.
