The physical exercises we recognize as Hatha Yoga date back 1500 years prior to Hinduism. They stem from the cultural heritage of the Indus Valley. Initially, the Asanas were not linked to Hindu deities. Should you believe practicing Yoga could result in possession by a Hindu god or demon, abstain from it. I, however, do not perceive this as a cause for apprehension. However, it should be noted that many Hindus currently disapprove of its practice in a secular context or within the framework of other religions. I'd be more concerned about cultural appropriation than something like demon possession.

I worked downtown Vancouver as a commodity futures broker when Pope John Paul ll came to visit the city. He stayed the night at the Catholic Holy Rosary Cathedral. A colleague of mine told me to come with him as we came to work before 7 am and he had seen the limos and drivers beside the Cathedral and surmised the Pope was about to depart. No one was around and we went to the grass area beside the Cathedral where several long black limos sat with drivers standing beside them, Two fellows in black suits with vest, most likely security for the Pope were at the top of the steps, when suddenly the side door opened and out came the Pope in a flowing white garmet followed by the Bishop with his red sash and several priests and others in dark suits. WOW! He came down the steps to the waiting limos as everyone and everything was suddenly in motion. My friend bid the Pope a "Welcome to Vancouver" as he walked past us and he responded to us saying "It was "another beautiful day in God's world." I don't recall exactly what I said to the Pope as I was just too excited, overwhelmed by what was happening. He then entered his waiting limo as everyone else got in the vehicles and off they went. What a thrill for us. We were like two kids meeting their grade school teacher for the first time. We were speechless as we walked back to our office in the Scotia Tower.

What we refer to as Yoga, the stretching and breathing exercises were not a big part of the original Yoga. But in the early 20th century, Hindu nationalists, impressed by British physical culture appropriated what was a YMCA program of breathing and calisthenics based on the work of a Dane called Pehr Henrik Ling, the creator of Swedish massage. This system of calisthenics was then fused with the original system of mystical practices to create modern Yoga. Just remove the pagan woo and call it what it originnal was, Danish Calisthenics.

But sadly many catholic priests are encouraging it more than hindus themselves Evil infiltrated….Pray for discernment and that the wolf in sheep’s skin may not deceive you… Pray earnestly that our parish gets a holy priest who can lead us to heaven.. if you study the old testament you will realise how strict GOD was when it came to not following other nations’ god and traditions .
