I've been wanting to learn the cello for several years now. I currently play the drums, bass guitar and flute.

Thank you so much for sharing this resource online. I've absolutely loved your teaching style and how you guide us through the steps. Can't wait to start on the next course! (I'm guessing it's the Perpetual Joy one 🙏)

Just stopping by to say thanks so much for this video! We appreciate the 3 tempos! I say we because my son (7) is the cellist and I just support his love for the cello 🙂

your torso is normal size. Longer torso'd people will not be able to follow this - the pegs will come to our shoulders not behind our heads.

Great technique - have you tried doing strength training for your left fingers? It can do wonders for precision, speed and overall technique.

D it's f**king silent!!! Like in Django for God's sake.
@thecelloonlineАй бұрын
@@reinierwilson6 I am sorry you are so upset. There is a more correct Czech pronunciation (see other comments on this video) but even that does not make the D silent, its still has the D sound at the beginning. Again, sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

No!!! It’s never about practicing a certain position, it’s about _finfing_ the best position for you, and there are only 3 rules: #1: best position for a straight bow arm #2: needs to be comfortable #3: Cello should be able to vibrate as freely as possible. Beyond that, any position is fair game. It’s about experimenting (including chair height), never about practicing a specific position. I, for one, found my perfect position only after my luthier removed a peg that was in the way.

It sounds very deep, but not as warm as wood if that makes any sense. I'm sure it's good for a plastic though. The recording probably doesn't do it much justice either

Thanks for all the time you've put into these videos. Super underrated

After you find the best length, use your arm to measure it to get it the same every time. Ie; elbow against the bottom to tip of endpin at some place on your hand like a certain knuckle on a particular finger.

Playing chords helps checking if you roughly got the right pitch, but to practice intonation, a much better way is to listen if your instrument sounds good & free: the more you play in tune, the freer and greater the sound; this benchmark is the best north star while practicing (and a wonderful bonus as well).
@thecelloonlineАй бұрын
But how do you know you are playing in tune….? To begin with…? Do you have perfect pitch?
