Wonderful performance on a spectacular organ! I played this on my senior organ recital. It was a lot of work to learn but once I got it under my fingers and feet it just rolled along nicely.

Never thought I'd hear a performance of this work that didn't drown in pious murk -- Rosalinde Haas excepted, of course -- and your performance is even sharper/clearer/cleaner than hers! Bravo!

Great playing! Does the pedal division just use manual stops, or are there dedicated pedal stops?
@OttobeurenKaiser
@OttobeurenKaiser Жыл бұрын
Thank you, James! Yes, the pedal division just uses the manual stops, although there is only one lever that engages the 16' in the pedal.

Quite a while ago I saved both versions of Karl Richter's performance of this because you were the only one who posted them on KZbin. I liked it so much I bought a set of Richter's cds. Your rendition is as close to Richter as I have heard. Best wishes to you and your career. The great Karl Richter would be very proud of you indeed.

From the "aesthetic point of view", this console is beautiful. The beauty of this console is match by sound of this organ and the playing "a memory" of this organist. Hats off to both.

This one could only play Harry Grodberg, the Russian Jew. Karl Richter did it a bit like him but nobody of us would cry. Grodberg once recorded Pasacalia but not as good as he could, and he didn't include it in his LPs. I listened it in 1979 in Leningrad. If you don't know Grodberg, try "Choral preludes" from 9:34 -- kzbin.info/www/bejne/fonQfKaDi6yNe6s and this kzbin.info/www/bejne/f3TKoYSep7iGps0

To the weary soul, tired from a life's work, this song conveys the longing for simple peace and rest that is death. The worn-out body is discarded and the weary soul goes back to the only home it has ever known; the place we call Heaven.

@@OttobeurenKaiser As a quick question, do you use pedal for variation VII? I had heard there was some dispute about that.
@OttobeurenKaiser
@OttobeurenKaiser 3 жыл бұрын
@@mpolan2778 No, I use only a 4' flute and a tremulant. I didn't know there was a dispute over that, honestly!

@@OttobeurenKaiser Okay thanks! Interesting. I was reading part of this recently (core.ac.uk/download/pdf/44289418.pdf) and apparently one manuscript lists that variation as "à 2 Clav. è Ped." I did not know about this either. The author had "little doubt" about an implied pedal part, but it seemed a little subjective. Nonetheless, figured I would ask!

@@OttobeurenKaiser You're amazing! I've got three kids and often I can't remember their names! But, I can still recite the Gettysburg Address that we all had to memorize AND RECITE ALOUD way, way back in jr. high. Now I can hardly play Silent Night without the music in front of me! My theory is that there's a finite amount of memory in the universe and the more of it that they put into computers and cell phones . . . well it has to come from somewhere! Do all that you can to hang on to yours!
