Beautiful scenery! I recently recommended north-central San Diego County to some people asking about where to see fall colors in southern California, and this is a great exhibition of it!
@southwestroadtrips13 күн бұрын
Great time to go before crowds arrive to see the snow. Another area I think would be nice for fall colors is near Julian and Mount Laguna.

@ I’m a big Julian fan!

There doesn't appear to be many gas stations or rest stops. Was the drive smooth?

There are steep hills between El Centro and San Diego. Mostly flat from Yuma to El Centro.

Boring flat drive from Yuma to El Centro. Basically flat until you reach the mountains. There are definitely a few steep hills going towards SD, but nothing too extreme. I always felt the incline more going back towards Yuma, as it’s a steeper grade

Earlier this year I drove down the 74 from Hemet to Palm Desert. Beautiful drive.

Nice upload I live in Palm Desert I travel these roads often. It's interesting when watching the trip on a video, how much more one can take in. Always show lots of street and green, white signs😀

This was probably the only way to get from the Temecula area to San Diego before the interstate 15 was built many years ago. Took longer, but these are the only highways that existed before the interstates.

We used to stop in at The Paradise Cafe on the corner of 74 and 371 all the time. I would ask the waitress for "the Jimmy Buffet Special" and the waitress had no idea what that was (Chesseburger in Paradise). Finaly we bought the album cover and gave it to the owner as a joke.

But hey, they care about security and not line their pockets with cash. Also, whats up with America and those tiny sped limit signs?
@GamersTrashTalk3 ай бұрын
In my country, you have to be at the specified speedlimit, once you pass the sign.. Its not always fair, since we have roads that essentially goes from 130kmph almost to 50. There is signs, but yeah. Ruels are ruels
@reality94513 ай бұрын
Especially through the small towns. And DON'T accelerate as soon as you can see the sign where it goes back up - wait until you have passed the sign before pressing down on the gas. That is a FAVORITE tactic of the small town cops.

Thank you for this video. This drive seems to be a bit better than the 243 to the 10. Which I absolutely do not like! Less sharp curves and less steep cliffs. What is your opinion on the two separate drives?

From around 1916 a wooden plank road was built to help early motorist drive across the desert dunes between El Centro and Yuma Az. In the 1930s an asphalt road , US 80 replaced it.

Used to drive Phoenix <=> San Diego a lot, so knew what was coming up every inch of the road - like the Deer Crossing sign that always gets a red reflector added to it. Only surprise was the wind farm as you climb out of Imperial Valley. Thanks for posting this.

Does this ever take me back.. I used to drive Yuma-San Diego round-trip twice a month, between 1975-1978. I was in the Army, stationed at the Yuma Proving Grounds, 26 miles north of Yuma off US95. I was there when Hurricane Kathleen came up the Gulf of California and, among lots of other damage, took out the lower section of the Interstate 8 Mountain Springs grade. For about a month, to get from Yuma to San Diego, you'd have to go up Highway 111 to I10 and take I10 to I15 and take it south to San Diego. Real pain..

Damn... I used to make this trip twice a month back between 1975-1978. I put 35K miles on a brandnew 1975 Chevy LUV truck IN ONE YEAR, doing this trip back/forth and trips to LA during the trips. I was stationed at the US Army Yuma Proving Grounds, 26 miles by US95 north of Yuma.

That vegetation contains a lot of flammable resins. A combination of a windy day, spark from a dirt bike, a careless clod flings a cigarette butt, and those country folks are in a world of hurt!!!🤔🤔🤔🤔
