There are plenty of KZbin videos showing the insides of the QM2. We were completely fascinated by the amazing waves that the ship was blasting through with nary an issue. We learned the difference between an ocean liner and a cruise ship. I'm not sure I'd want to cross the North Atlantic in a top-heavy cruise ship.

@@wasabisf You are right - sorry! I have crossed the Atlantic 11 times by ship (2 Russian liners, and the QE2 and the QM2). There have been a few gales but the ships were stable and I didn't get sea sick. These ships are built sturdily for crossing oceans...

Thanks, Jonathan. The video also had no obnoxious canned music added to it, like many KZbin videos. The ocean has its own symphony of sounds, as does a massive ship like the QM2.

Very nice video, did you feel any rocking of the ship? was it scary? i see the waves are big , also what month was it? why the weather is like this....and how long did it last all this horrible waves?
@wasabisf7 жыл бұрын
How much one feels the waves depends on where in the ship one is. If one is on a lower deck and amidships, the motion is not that noticeable. But, if one is near the bow and/or on an upper deck, you feel the motion... BIG TIME. This crossing was in late October and the North Atlantic Ocean is notoriously rough most of the year. Of the seven days at sea, only one day saw really rough waves.
@alien111star7 жыл бұрын
thank you for all the answers to my questions :-) thinking of sailing with them this summer. Was there some people scared when waves were big? I wonder if its a usual thing or it happens rare.? Its scary even to look at the video, those waves are scary.
@robertoalexandre42507 жыл бұрын
Great video! One gets a feeling for how the QM2 handles in mean weather, and she does very well. You can notice some slight pitching, but I imagine the roll would be almost negligible. As the ship is so big, one doesn´t realize the size of the waves. I don´t imagine any cruise ship could handle such waves as smoothly and I would think only the now extinct liners like the France or the Michelangelo (with their streamlined hulls and deep draft) would probably ride as smoothly.
@tonyhinojosa77105 жыл бұрын
Roberto Alexandre, also the retractable and adjustable stabilizers help greatly with the rolling, though they don't do anything for the pitching.

Doug your juvenile comment I believe was for me, hahaha reffering to my 3 passages on The Black Barge. When I was not talking to you, so you stuck your nose in. Fact The Queen M 2 has a very non friendly crew, compared to The Norwegian Escape , also the comparison between ocean liner and cruise ship is bunk they are all strictly passenger vessels, so to compare is more than just. It does not easily handle storms, better than any other ship, I have been on it during storms. What it all boils down to is service, service ,service. The service on The QM2 is not good , it is mediocre at best, end of discussion!!!!.

You have never been on a cruise before!! I can guarantee you that. QM2 LOL. You'll be lucky to sail on a kayak. QM2 or CUNARD have certain standards and clientele. Very rich people travel aboard it. You'll anyways feel out of place amongst them and therefore it's not a good option for you. People like you do small cruise hops on boats across islands.

I saw the Anthem of the Seas on video amidst a storm, and I wonder if all passengers had a good comment to say, when the Captain thought it wise to sail her at the tail end of a hurricane. Watching it made me appreciate Queen Mary 2.

"Don't listen to Doug," Joseph wrote. Thanks for being such an open-minded individual... NOT! It's too bad that you can't recognize that an opinion other than yours could possibly be valid. If every traveler wanted the exact same experience aboard a ship, they would all be identical. Clearly that's not the case. It's also clear that the QM2 is not the best choice for you, Joseph. That much you CAN say with certainty. To say my opinions are not worth listening to is something you CANNOT say.

The Atlantic is hyped up too. The Pacific is the biggest and meanest ocean of all. If you really want the QM2 to rock and roll it should routinely cross the Pacific. Although it would take much more time to cross, the Pacific is simply massive. As Admiral Halsey said in WW2 the Atlantic is a bathtub compared to the Pacific.
@martinborgen7 жыл бұрын
Biggest, but it was named pacific, because of how peaceful the ocean is, compared to the north atlantic, which meanness is legendary.
@stanislawbragiel23597 жыл бұрын
Try the Southern Ocean for roughness if you're game Lol
@daveboydell28966 жыл бұрын
The Pacific was thought to be peaceful when it was first sailed on only because it was the southern parts it was first sailed on. The north Pacific is unmatched in wave height and meaness! Don't forget the bigger the ocean the bigger the weather on it! The largest recorded wave heights have been on the Pacific not the puny Atlantic! Also Typhoons on the Pacific dwarf the hurricanes on the Atlantic. Hurricane Katrina could have fit inside the eye of Typhoon Tip a monsterous Pacific Typhoon in 1979.

Legend often clouds fact Martin!
@deltaboy7675 жыл бұрын
Because of the currents cold meet warm Waters of the Atlantic ocean it's the most ferocious ocean with constant swells and rough seas. Not saying that the Pacific is by any means docile, but the Atlantic had been known to swallow ships whole without a trace during storms, even flying 40k feet above the Atlantic during a storm can be felt at that altitude and toss a wide body jet around like a toy.

It probably was a little slow, but most of that was intentional. When 42,000 people are singing along across a giant baseball stadium, we wanted to make sure that the sound stayed together as much as possible. I don't think it was TOO slow, like some renditions of the national anthem. Don't get me started :-)

@tonyhinojosa77104 жыл бұрын
Jere C, there's only one now because the popularity of transatlantic travel via ship took a nosedive with the advent of flying in the 1960s that reduced trips across the ocean from days to hours and saw a resurgence in popularity after James Cameron's Titanic movie in 1997. Cunard, the only cruise line that still makes routine crossings, was on the verge of bankruptcy and purchased by Carnival in 1998 and built the Queen Mary 2 in 2014 to pay homage to the glory days of transatlantic travel.
@kaylanaima86458 жыл бұрын
I was on the Queen Mary II , for this crossing and there was about 48 hours of very rocky cruising with water coming onto my balcony , about 5 inches and many hallways had water in them too . We were on the 5 floor deck , it was so rocky I had a hard time sleeping . I have been on 20 cruises but this was my 1st transatlantic and my last ! I am glad I experienced the Queen Mary II , BUT once was enough for me ! I think the 110 mile an hr winds were worse than normal and the waves were large , when the ship would come up and then slap down on the ocean , I thought it would crack in half . I was very happy to see the Statue of Liberty and be back in the beautiful USA !

Rick one more tip, if you drink wine there is a cast off party on the stern of The QM2,with the band playing if you are leaving via New York the high light is when you go under the bridge it is so close to the smoke stack. There will be a small comp bottle in your cabin open it ,fill your glass and take it up on deck instead of spending $8 a glass for what they sell on deck.
@Jay-vr9ir8 жыл бұрын
Rick my last crossing , I wore a cheap white jacket that I purchased in Paris, black slacks, a black shirt I used a heavy white oil paint on the black shirt's buttons, I coated the shirts's buttons with cheap clear nail polish so the paint did not wash off, but I now found a store that sells satin shirts ,I bought a black one, they are cool and keep you cool, a white bow tie, a white cumber bund, and for fun white satin gloves, I was a hit in The Norwegian Escape night club. Check Amazon or second hand shops, spray wth Lysol then dry clean all you need is a black suit with bow ties ,etc and a white jacket .Bon Voyage
@Jay-vr9ir8 жыл бұрын
Rick this ship is all hype, I do not know your age group or status, in other words for myself I like a zip line, a water slide , surf pool etc . I am not a young man but I still enjoy the rush these things have to offer .The QM2 doesn't have any of these things it is very basic ,the night club is next to empty at night , the ballroom you had better know how to dance no faking it, they have hired dancers for ladies, that hog the ladies. The King's Court is part of the daytime cafeteria at night all they do is put table cloths on the table change the menu,plus I believe there is a charge. Also all cruise ship casino's are a rip off.
@dougl98798 жыл бұрын
Clearly, different ships are right for different folks. Joseph is right that there is no zip line, water slide, or surf pool. But, that's not necessarily what everyone is seeking in a home away from home for 7 nights. That's why there are so many different types of ships with different configurations. Two very important things to consider when choosing a ship: Passenger to crew ratio (the amount of attention that passengers can expect to receive) Passenger to tonnage ratio (how crowded the ship will be when you're aboard) If you check this out, you'll find that the QM2 has one of the lowest passenger-to-crew ratios and one of the highest passenger-to-tonnage ratios. Remember also how much longer it will take to de-board and re-board a ship with 3,000 or more passengers. By that count, the QM2 is relatively small, yet it feels quite spacious. As for the casino, I found the blackjack tables to be quite fair. the rules were fine and the limit on the table was just $5, lower than I thought it would be. I didn't play any of the other games there, so I can't comment on them.

Hello Rick I usually do not have many nice things to say about The QM2. I have crossed on her 3 times the crew is not the happiest on the high seas, nor very friendly compared to the fantastic Norwegian Escape. The 1st class cabins are on the high decks, so they do rock n roll more than the cheaper lower cabins. The last time I was toward the stern so my bed had a minor vibrating , that cost me sleep I am a very light sleeper. I suggest lower deck and interior cabins they are the most stable , you can turn on the television during the day to watch the bridge camera and see the upcoming waves. After noon tea in the ballroom is great.
@Ooobie778 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear about that. I'm just using QM2 because I really can't handle flying. I'm down in the lower deck. Lol love the thought of turning on the TV to see a tidal wave approaching. Think I won't use that channel. Going to be a transport option for me, not really into getting all suited up for the dinners, but when in Rome do what the Romans do.

Rick dressing for dinner is the best part of the cruise , the food is good, order as many things as you like. I loaded up on a variety of bow ties , cummerbunds and vest for the cruise. They do have a few nights of jackets for men ,with no ties. I do not wear white in the months from Sept to May,for fashion reasons. I hate flying , so I take ships, you may want to try another line Norwegian Escape was a great ,also a doctor told me to take Grovol before bed, for motion sickness.

Lol. James Bond night, shaken not stirred Joseph. So can you order seconds and it's included in the price? Did you eat at the Kings Court? was the food good there? The Norwegian Escape looks a real beauty. I'm getting more and more into the crossing mood now. I'm going solo though :(
@dougl98798 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can order as much food as you like for no extra cost. There is a premium restaurant aboard the QM2 which I dined in one night. It was well worth the additional cost, although there is nothing at all wrong with the food in the Britannia dining room. As for the Kings Court buffet, I found it to be wonderful. I had breakfast and lunch there just about every day. The food was always fresh and the place was immaculate. There was plenty of staff around to make sure that supplies were replenished and dirty tables were promptly cleaned. Although I read some negative comments about the Kings Court on CruiseCritic.com, I didn't find any of those things to be true at all. Remember one thing additionally: the QM2 offers room service and there is NO COST for this. I ate in the cabin once and the service was really good, the service was fast, and the food was tasty. Don't forget about that option.
