I would rather stay home than fly economy long haul - in fact these days economy anywhere, even though CE is nothing to write home about. We always use Avios to get into First whenever we go anywhere long haul these days, and if First is not available we don't go. It sounds like we are real Divas but not so - we are like you guys, rugger type physique and we just can't fit into economy seats. Why suffer?
@Those_TravelholicsАй бұрын
Long-haul economy was definitely an experience but it was either that or loose the Amex Companion Voucher! It’s now making us consider getting the Black Amex card to benefit from the Business Class seats. Totally get your view about only flying First class and if you can afford to do so then why not! Life is for living and you can’t take your pennies with you once you go 😉 ….but the plane gods have spoken to Steven and he will not be doing long-haul economy again for sure 🤣
@maxthelab8457Ай бұрын
@@Those_Travelholics We run a business and plough as many business expenses through our Amex as poss. It means we usually get at least 2 companion vouches a year plus 3 to 400k Avios. That is how we can get into First twice a year, which is enough for us as the rest of the trip is usually quite expensive cos we like nice places and even nicer hotels. This year we had a week in San Francisco and a week in Santiago Chile. We supp' that with a couple of European jaunts in CE through the years to keep life interesting too...........what spoilt bitches I hear ya say. We aren't really, as we don't drink or smoke - travel is our drug of choice. BTW with BA's current redemption structure, it's actually less Avios to go First than Club World on many routes - check it out.

Is a Thameslink and change on to Elizabeth line not an option for you?
@Those_TravelholicsАй бұрын
Yep, very much so - But as we said in the vlog it can be a bit of a challenge changing from one train to another and negotiating lifts or escalators if you have suitcases with you. So we tend to use The Airline as the suitcases go in the hold (no fighting to try and find luggage rack space on the train) and there are no changes. For us, that makes it a bit easier. 😊

@ ah I thought you talked about the Heathrow Express that’s what confused me as it sounded like, train, tube, Express rather than two modes and one change at Farringdon.

Thanks for sharing. I have also been Tier point chasing and one downside is putting on weight from all the lounge food and drinks over the last 6 months or so 😂. And on my recent trip to the BA Glasgow lounge I enjoyed the breakfast offer before they bought out lunch just before midday. Looking forward to your next videos.
@Those_TravelholicsАй бұрын
Thank you! Yes, we definitely have to be mindful of the potential weight gains, but the call of travelling is normally a bit too strong for us. We have a few other vlogs on the channel now and have two further trips to edit and release in the coming weeks. There will be lots of travel days on there, but also some of the days when we’re at locations too, to give a bit of variety. Hopefully you’ll like what you see. 👍🏻 Luke.

A wonderful overview of the city. Imagine nearly 3 years of that, out on the town every night. My apartment was just by the Erzsebet Bridge Pest side. Back in those days though the whole place was a bit more atmospheric, Hungarian, and authentic. The level of renovations and development that has occurred since they joined the EU is huge. And the prices are something else. That meal you had which came to Ft91K!!!!!!. In my time there ( 25 years ago ) that meal would have been Ft4K tops ( for 3 of us ). You could have dinner out, pkt of fags, & hit the bar till 2am and get change from Ft5K. You could get a big detached Villa over in Buda for £100K then. I know it was a long time ago now, but the cost of living back then compared to London was like 10%, now I bet it is like 80%, if not more. I still love the place though - I knew some fab folk whilst there.

Thank you for the lovely comments and for sharing your own memories. It is such a beautiful City and has so much character and charm. Unfortunately we didn’t get to do the evening boat trip to see the City lights and for some reason the Parliament building wasn’t lit up when we were there either. Still a fantastic destination and we’d recommend it to anyone just like you.

Yes, it was certainly an experience! We’re not going to say “Never”, but it’s probably one we won’t put too high on the list to repeat. To be fair, the crew were great, it was just the hard seats, cramped legroom and the clientele that brought it down a bit. Luke.

Hello, I looked at the video and it is really exciting, I just want to ask a question. It is seen in the video that you continue on your way as if you got off the plane and you go to the exit, you do not go through passport control.
@Those_Travelholics2 ай бұрын
Yes, that’s correct for this particular flight. Because it originated and ended within the UK, there was no passport control to go through. I have to be honest in that being UK based, I’ve never connected to this flight from an overseas destination via Heathrow, so I’m not sure how the passport control works in that scenario. But I’m guessing you’d clear immigration at Heathrow before completing the final leg to Belfast if you do that. Glad you liked the video though! Luke.

Such a fab city...I lived there for nearly 3 years, it was wonderful. When I left for the last time I cried on the plane ( thankfully I was in CE row 1 and the only person in CE as it was the dead early flight). Still, my hubby had missed me terribly so he was glad I was going home.

@@Those_Travelholics If you get a chance to go again nip down to Szentendre, an Uber will get you there in 1/2 hour, it's lovely, lovely, lovely. If you want to do a spot of thermal relaxation go to the one under the Gellert Hotel across the Duna - that's lovely too, a bit pricy but that keeps the dross out. Avoid the bigger thermals like Szechenyi as they get really crowded and god knows what you might catch. For dinner, you must try Cyrano Etterem, Kristof Ter, just off Vaci Ut & if you feel flush do lunch or dinner at Gundels. Unfortunately the best 'bar' has closed now, was called Action Bar! That was an eye-opener!. Oh and if you fancy a pig out, they used to do a Sunday Brunch Buffet at the Marriot which was fun and good value. Wish I was there...................

Thank you for the recommendation. I suspect we will go back at somepoint, and hopefully for a little longer this time, so we’ll definitely look into your suggestions more thoroughly for sure. That being said, the next video may feature a visit to the Szechenyi Baths 😉
@maxthelab84572 ай бұрын
@@Those_Travelholics Almost everyone who visits Budapest goes to Szechenyi as it is basically the biggest & best known, and close to some of the main sites like Hero's Sq etc... The others like the Gellert, Racs, & Rudas are less well known............but so much more of an experience ( and used by locals ). The architecture is stunning, The Gellert is high Art Nouveau, Rudas is one of the oldest and is ( or was ) high Otterman, and Racs is Edwardian I would guess. Rudas used to be the most atmospheric, it was dark, foggy and so cosy. The Gellert is pretty much a showy place, very 'up market' - but beautiful. They have outdoor areas there to, with a pool that has a wave machine. They used to blast Gorg' Michaels Careless Whisper just before they switched it on and there was this deluge of folks into the pool, it was so funny to see. We used to hang out at the Gellert every Sunday morning then head over to the Marriot for the Buffet. Then early eve drinks at mine, and off to Action Bar about 9.30 till late. Life was such fun then.

there are plans to have an integrated train station in the airport, as belfast has the worst congestion per head in the UK after London
@Those_Travelholics2 ай бұрын
Thanks. That’s interesting to know. I have a few contacts at Translink, mainly in connection with my day job - The last I’d heard was that the plans were not proceeding because the existing Sydenham station was too far from the terminal building, and the costs were really high to build a whole new station. We have just suffered exactly the same fate. We flew back from Santiago Chile with BA in First last week, and at check-in some ignorant filthy pig was coughing next to us at the CW check-in. Despite immediately diving under damp tea towels and blowing out like ragging bulls we caught the bug. We don't actually chase tier points as we always travel Biz or First ( as we have an allergy to economy class cabins don't ya know.....................no really it's cause we are big ol' rugger boys and not only are economy seats too small for us we hate ques, for anything! Oh and we love bubbly which makes it all the more worthwhile ). Cough....

There’s nothing worse than catching a cold or bug from travelling, and then knowing who actually gave it to you. Here’s hoping it doesn’t last too long and you recover quickly. I didn't think you were awarded tier points on Avios redemption tickets?? It's not clear what you actually did.
@Those_Travelholics3 ай бұрын
@@maxthelab8457Yes, normally that’s correct. But it depends how you book the flight. If you do it as a reward flight, you are totally right. You get nothing really for that in terms of Avios or Tier points. But we booked this as a cash flight, and used Avios to reduce the price. So we still earned the tier points (and Avios too). The value of Avios seems to reduce the more you try to redeem in one go against a cash booking, so stockpiling them to try and spend on a long trip isn’t always the best approach. But you can really use them to your advantage for these ultra-short haul trips which earn 40 points each way in Club Europe, if you use them as a part payment, rather than a reward flight. Luke.
@maxthelab84573 ай бұрын
@@Those_Travelholics Yeah I was just discussing it with my Hubs and he said it must be cash booking, offseting the cost with Avios. We have never really chased status as we run our own company and feed EVERYTHING through our Amex account, so we accrue Avios like they are going out of fashion. We usually rack up about 500K a year so with our companion vouchers we manage about 3 First Rtns a year and several CE trips... This year we went First to SFO in May and next week we are off to Santiago ( Chile ) in First. Have done a few European jaunts too, next is Prague in November. The only bummer for us is it is hit or miss that we get row 1 when we travel - which in the First cabins is neither here no r there, but in CE, well you know what I mean. Anyways guys, I will be following your travels, always so much more interesting when the hosts are cute lol.
