I used one and and tested it with a call. You could still hear the call thru the bag it didn't drop it once, and that was done in an area with just 1 bar. If you want to protect your devices, get a true Faraday cage rated to reduce signal by 80 db, the military standard.

What is insane is that they capture every time your phone moves, whenever it rotates to landscape mode, when the display screen shuts off and turns back on... The level of monitoring is just too much, and they turn this information over to law enforcement agencies once it's officially requested.

yes but the real brain teaser is...if you are important enough to the government that they tap into your phone and all your devices, you probably would end up being under a microscope with or without your phone....they are not just watching every random joe...the amount of data and time that would take would boggle your mind. Pretty sure you are fine as a citizen that is not a threat to national security...

It might not be a perfect fix, but I found out quite by accident that the bags Ghirardelli squares come in are pretty good Faraday thingies, too.

Any conductive material that fully encloses a space is a Faraday cage. But the thickness matters. Throw your phone in and make sure if you call it it goes straight to voicemail and then use the "find my phone" from another phone or computer, make sure before you throw your phone in that GPS location and data are both on. Then see if it can locate your phone. It should try for a minute then tell you it can't find your phone at all. Then you know it's a thick enough Faraday cage to block all signals. A thick enough Faraday cage can also protect electronics from EMPs but for that it needs to be really thick, like I would probably use 1/4" thick copper sheets

Whether it’s real or not it definitely happens. The RF emitting from your fob can be picked up from a repeater, amplified and duplicated and then the thief can just push the button to start it and drive off. If you have push to start, a faraday pouch or box is absolutely recommended. Especially if you’re driving something expensive.

Cheap heavy duty aluminium foil from the supermarket works just as well when wrapped with four layers around a switched-off smartphone, because yes, neither your 'Faraday' bag or aluminium foil can stop 100% of a phone's attempt to connect to a network when it devotes full power to the GSM aerial as it cycles down to 2G for the purpose of SOS calls. The only way to prevent a signal getting in or out is to switch off the phone before placing it into the foil or your bag...

The only way to prevent a signal getting in or out is to switch off the phone before placing it into the foil or your bag... As for your comment about being hacked at one of these events, well, just don't accept any incoming Bluetooth pairing requests or connect to any WiFi networks, and don't open up any email attachments sent to you from those purporting to work for the event, and don't plug your phone into any public USB 'charging' ports and you'll never get hacked. The days of BlueSnarfing (which is how Paris Hilton's phone contact list got stolen two decades ago) are long gone. You can't hack a person's Bluetooth connection without their willing interaction nowadays, regardless of what jackasses like 0day say on tech/military bro KZbin podcasts...

Those bags will only truly guarantee that you drop off the grid if the phone is also turned off while in the bag... If your phone is still turned on while in the bag, it will begin jacking up the power to the 3G/4G/5G aerial to get a signal (which absolutely hammers your battery life), and it WILL eventually sneak something past that bag, either inbound or outbound. At least when the phone is powered down, it has no ability to devote high amounts of power for a GSM/data link... Oh, and don't waste your money on this bag - just buy some extra tough 'heavy duty' aluminium foil and triple wrap your switched-off phone in it for the same effect...

Microwave ovens only block very high frequency radio waves (it's in the name 'microwave') that are even higher frequency than LTE and 5G. They will not, however, block all attempts at a 2G signal when your phone jacks up the power being sent to the GSM aerial in its attempt to reconnect to any nearby network for emergency calls.

You can instantly go off the grid by leaving your phone at home 😂
@Funkteon
@Funkteon 21 күн бұрын
One thing the cops are forever afraid of is the possibility that everyday criminals begin leaving their smartphones at home when they commit crimes... One of the first things the police do when they get a report of a serious crime is ask the telco managing the mobile infrastructure nearby the crime scene for a list of cellphone numbers that accessed the towers during the timeframe of the crime... In the few cases where crims were aware of this, it took WAAAAAY more investigatory effort from the police to figure out a list of suspects.
