Great video but the "old film" effects are really disturbing! Please remove that and it would be an A+ video

Juliet is one of the greatest intellects of our time. I enjoy hearing her thoughts on all facets of life: economics, sustainable and ethical living, etc. We need more of these conscientious content on KZbin, and much, much less of the influencer-driven garbage that is unfortunately far more ubiquitous.

Why isn’t this research being done at every rank and throughout the chain of command? Emotional intelligence plays a big part in leadership and motivation.
@dermotrooney958410 ай бұрын
Because higher commanders are often averse to being measured, it would cost loads, the research budget is biased toward procurement, and the theory is a still a bit ropey. The core idea is sound and this could stimulate a revolution in training but it's early days yet. I'm really looking forward to the findings. 🌟

I have got Augustus Kelley's reprint of the first edtion of the Wealth of Nations, whose English text is too difficult for me. but I'll keep it instead of selling, because this reprint itself seems to be rare today.

By old testament standards, IMO he's talking about the morals of the prophets. The ones who can't escape the voice of justice when it speaks to them.

This is really great work well done to everyone involved! Could you lower the volume on the music though? It's too dominant and makes it difficult to concentrate on what Kathleen is saying. I'm not sure it is even needed TBH.

Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations has been in Project Gutenberg since 2001. Electronics books means you can search, not just read. Search for what? That relates to how you think about economics. Search for "and account". You will find multiple instances of, "read, write and account". Adam Smith used the word 'education' Eighty Times. Did Milton Friedman ever tell us that? What if economics is a power game and the powers that be want the suckers kept ignorant? Mandatory accounting/finance in the schools for most people was not possible in Smith's day. 50% of Brits were illiterate. But the US could have done that since Sputnik. When have you heard an economist suggest it?

I have a friend who, some years ago, embraced a "green" lifestyle. Since then he has become the most voracious consumer I know (whilst berating the rest of us to follow his "green" lead). Whenever I go to his house he shows me a veritable parade of newly purchased "green" gadgets, new books and items that he does not actually need but, genuinely, believes help fight climate change. Sadly I feel that he is indicative of the main problem of modern society.

I was at a bookshop and by accident saw a book on the floor, which I picked up. I took a quick look at the reviews. It said if you have never read a book before. Read this. So I bought it. The name of book was A Short History of Progress by R Wright, a lecturer similar to yourself. In it, the same warnings you mention. I think this book, given in quite easy to understand examples, highlighting so much in common with your lecture. This book should be part of curriculum at schools of the right age, as it will open eyes of the dangers so well explained by you. This book made me aware so I always look for lectures etc similar to yours and have learnt a lot. Hope to see more lectures by you.

What I notice about everyone speaking in these malthusian terms is that the burden is on the people to change their ways and not as much the corporations and military industrial complex which are incentivized to create unsustainable production. Growth is not the problem, capitalism is. You can have net 0 production and consumption. Asking ordinary everyday working class to live below their means provides cover for the ruling class.
