Whats the legal limit of how many chassis you can stack onto another chassis? What about how many chassis on a flatbed? Thanks,

18 mph really? Why so slow? Seems like something like 30 would be plenty safe. But I don’t drive truck so I don’t know much about it

I have done it,with an old volvo with basic hp 400 and very little torque at almost 80,000 lbs.8 gears.the trick is to select the proper gear before heading down.some of the trucks passing, they are carrying very little weight.and you have to relay weight to speed.the heavier the slowest, the lighter the faster, but not too fast, still a very long downhill.wildhorse casino and truck stop at the bottom to cool down and eat.ah and fuel up.😊nice video.

@truckuhmike2622 the Jake should work in every gear, is it doesn't, its due to the way the ECM is programmed.

Yea this new Cummings cx15 is a performance enhanced and motor protection to where in lower gears it has a automatic engine break but it’s weak made for flat land … and in 8th gear when u have the jakes active it works fine but anything lower than 8th and u twist the button on the Jake lever to activate it… theirs no Jake… my boss said it’s designed like that … I just don’t feel comfortable taking 78,520lbs down the grapevine in 8th gear …. That’s about 40mph when my rpms at 1500

There is a brake check stop on 24 just before the decent and it is monitored by not only the Tennessee DOT but the 75 S.B. scale.....been driving a tanker and I always stop at all brake check areas.....and this one at Monteagle I stop at i watch all the trucks that blow by it if they continue on 75 south into Georgia i see everyone of them pulled into that scale....just fyi guys dont be stupid....checking your brakes does save lives

I took that hill with Jake not working I dint want to trade in truck so I kept trying different terminals to see fux I'm company driver .......I come out dead slow but you over speed engine then on breaks but you don't want to be on breaks I think I had 40k or 38 ....I use to run equip before I drove truck so.......drivers take the Jake for granted ..... CW MCCALL WOLF CREEK PASS....I'm still alive nothing happend but I'll say this almost pushing triple digit in left lane at bottom hoping no one got in front of me.....cam shaft shifted so Jake wouldn't come on I thought it was electrical I dint want to give in that Pete

I had some guy asking me for gas money.when I said “ pull your car to that pump and I’ll pump you some “ he said I am empty and can’t move. I went inside bought a fuel can (not cheap at any truck stop) put 2 gallons in it and proceeded to the man. I went to him and I have gas for you sir. He got in his car and tried to leave but was blocked by traffic I then said loudly THIS IS A SCAMMER ASKING FOR GAS $$$

There’s definitely no reason to be on the brakes in a modern Freightliner. You can use the descent control all the way down. You should know how to do it manually as well

I live right west of Denver so every morning I'm coming down the incline into the city and every evening I head back up. I always look at the different truckers and tbh it's like they let anyone drive a truck now. I can tell the veterans like yourself by how they do things but then you have these other guys who just come flying past me. I've seen whole wheels on fire coming past me from trucks. Idk if they just don't care or if they aren't preparing these rookies for those steep mountain drives

There are so many variables to decending a long decline. Even the most experienced drivers can get over confident. Some trucks you see passing by going faster may be empty, or very little freight. .Others may not have a good engine break, and may need to just go slower. Or maybe you havent adjusted your breaks recently. A good rule of thumb is to just decend the hill at the same speed your specific truck would pull up that hill with the same load.

That's the right way to do that particular grade. But some grades wont allow that. Such as southbound I-30 down into Rainier Oregon with 105K. You just got to feel each one out and work your rig accordingly.

I have the same questions. Basically I ended up with 2 options: if you're on budget and/or don't want to lose warranty just use a magnifier from Ali, but the quality is going to be shitty. The more expensive option is core modification of camera. And here are the makers with their solutions: Backbone, RageCams, Adriano Lolli, Peau Productions.

I’m not a truck driver, never have been, but I have stayed at Holiday Inn…okay, just kidding. I HAVE gone over Monteagle many times both in a car and on a motorcycle. As you may guess I see trucks flying down the hill without a worry in the world and 99 percent of the time it’s fine. But remember this always. Gravity never, EVER sleeps. And it only takes one little otherwise insignificant parts breakage or what have you to set off a cascade of events that might end tragically. I’ve gone down Monteagle several times both ways with snow on the highway and trucks only a few feet away on both sides. You literally use that ESP and holler “okay nobody make any sudden moves.” Another really notorious downgrade I’m familiar with is Arkansas Scenic Highway 7 northbound down Round Top Mtn to the Buffalo National River. It’s 7-8% for 4 1/2 miles with several 20/25mph curves beyond the runaway ramp. 21 people were killed just past the present day ramp in 1980 before it opened. The primary cause was an inadequate replacement capacity fuel pump preventing the driver from gearing down - he had no chance and never knew it. Once in about 1991 there was a truck full of fertilizer that turned over in the last big left hand curve at the bottom coming into Jasper. Blocked the road for hours. When I went back down to school a few days later the grass and weeds were 20’ high. And then only a few years ago there was the time I led off my buddies on a bike ride. Truck sailed past us over the top and almost immediately began smoking brakes. I thought sure he was toast and considered passing ahead and attempting to warn oncoming traffic but I didn’t want to risk any of my buddies making such a dangerous pass. Amazingly he passed the ramp and still smoking furiously made every curve all the way down. Only then did he stop. Idiot! He was SO fortunate.
