I like your video. I don’t have black dry fly hackle but I do have starling hackle. I’m looking forward to tying a few modified Idaho killer kebaris.

New to the whole cover crop concept. Do you cover this with anything after breaking it down? I've seen some cover the green crop with brown leaves.

Do your hands shake because you're nervous? or just always? Mine just shake always, they stopped for a few years, but since I started fly fishing and tying they have started again =(

Do you have a video on a fly you used called pumpkin spice?

This Fly further proves how over complicated many fly fisherman make fly fishing. Fish are not complicated, and this fly works!

I’m a beginner in tying. This is the best demonstration of whip finishing I’ve seen. I’ve watched that part of the vid multiple times. Thank you so much. I’m a beginner also at Tenkara, so I love all your videos.

Could you use wire to wrap first if you wanted it a little heavier to fos under a bobber or as a jig.

Congratulations! A wonderful video as usual but with a twist. You have rediscovered a very traditional fly, the "Sawyers Killer Nymph" but taken it to a whole new level. No weight, no rib no unobtainable shetland darning wool but given it color. interest and total simplicity. Just love it, I"m away to tye some up right now to see if our New Zealand trout are as responsive as yours are.

these work great on the sunfish in east texas. i put uv on the body because sunfish teeth will unravel these pretty quick.

Have you fished this fly in any of you videos?

Nice Video! I learned about Utah Killer Bug some ten years ago. Before that I was fishing a lot with standard Killer Bug tied with red copperwire. Giving the fly a little red butt and when wet a reddish color on the Chadwick477. Frank Sawyer was using a red/brown copperwire but I think red has been good here in Sweden and Scandinavia. But Shetland Spindrift Oyster is also fishing nice with red copperwire or tying thread head
@leemowers93952 жыл бұрын
I use just a little bit of raw bee's wax on my thread to increase it's hold on the hackle when I tie it in. when I am finishing tying in a hackle to tying off a hackle I put a wrap in front of the feather alternating with the thread around the hackle, this helps to keep the feather from slipping through the tie off point and unraveling. If you want to pick up a few tips on tying technique, The Feather Bender (Barry Ord Clarke) does a great job of teaching while demonstrating Fly Tying.

Tristan, this video and your great website is going to get me into fly tying. I really appreciate all your videos on Tenkara Addict…they played a big role in my renewed love for fly fishing.

Nicely done! I've watched some of your vids where the ID-KK worked well for you. One thing I learned many yrs ago that really helps secure the hackle... instead of stripping the rachis, cut the barbules making nubs for the same length as you would strip. It takes an extra sec or two but really gives the tying silk something extra to grip the feather.

Interesting that the beads don’t slide on their own from motion / gravity. Is this just due to the type of cord used?
@miket10642 жыл бұрын
I use parachute (550) cord and wooden beads from Michael’s or Hobby Lobby.

have you used a white hackle instead of a dark colored hackle? it looks like it would be a bluegill slayer! what name brand of vise do you use? this looks like it would catch brook trout in waters where every one uses a hook and worm

What's the difference between using yarn vs. using dubbing in the same color? It looks the same but I don't know very much since I just started fly tying this year.

It turned out to be the most difficult fly I've tied
@flytyingyarndotcom92983 жыл бұрын
Really? Why?
@anton_gavrilov3 жыл бұрын
@@flytyingyarndotcom9298 Thick yarn body makes it more difficult to wrap a hackle. Maybe I haven't practiced tying hackled wet flies enough. I mostly tie nymphs. I also tied Ishigaki and Sakasa that day and this was really easy.
