Good commentary, but this is 100% German’s study of communism’s overthrowing of a noble society, and how the brutal world of Soviet Russian society is entire alien to the rest of the (modern) world

I sat through your stammering, amateurish opinion, trying to give you the benefit of the doubt, but you lost me at "Trumpian". Only Trump and his followers cause division and disharmony? Not the Left, Antifa, BLM, illegal invaders, and Communists (more relevant to the movie, BTW)? Typical tripe churned out by someone intellectually groomed by a Liberal Arts professor. No need to sit through anymore of your weak movie critiques.

Good video, I just saw the film last night and this helps me appreciate it even more. What I find interesting is how the kids act according to how they were taught to act - vengefully, as their parents did. Also, there's the mundanity of the repression, like the evil is always under the surface but never spoken about
@angel-ke9vs Жыл бұрын
Just watched it. It's great I am now watching the series version I am mid way through and so far I love it. It fixes a lot of the mistakes in the movie and really explores their motives. I like that the even the rich kids get depth. Grace is not dumb but has no self esteem she is also shown to be very manipulative. Pat is an entitled rich boy but his also surprisingly complex in the series version.

Great review! I am glad to hear someone else recognize how great a film Shame is. It is a criminally slept on Ingmar Bergman motion picture. A war-torn masterpiece. It has such a realistic feel and the legendary Bergman dialog is always so meaningful. This one is up there on my list of Bergman films.

@MrRenegadePhoenix2 жыл бұрын
Rashomon is short and yet profound, a classic starting point. Seven Samurai is long. But it tells one of his most accessible stories. Also his best film in my opinion. I would say start with one of those. (Ikiru is another option).

Watched Stalker a week or so ago, really liked it and it grew on me the more and more i thought about it, so decided to watch Mirror today and wow...totally blown away. Absolutely beautiful film and even tho i didnt understand everything exactly, i feel like i FELT everything the film was supposed to make me feel. That is what makes his films special so far imo, beyond the stunning cinematography and poetic writing...the personal connection and feel it gives you is truly timeless. Great breakdown and review.

Nicely done review. I love the movie. What a lot of reviews seem to miss is how Fai was nearly blind to the attention respect and affection that Chang showed him, until perhaps the very end, going all the way to Taiwan in hopes of crossing paths.

Haven't seen any Tarcovsky yet. Mirror sounds a bit like some of Mallacks more out there movies likes Tree of Life or Knight of Cups. Building up to get some Tarcovsky in the criterion collection. It's a toss-up between Mirror, Stalker or the Sacrifice. Any suggestions?
@MrRenegadePhoenix2 жыл бұрын
I think of those 3 films Stalker is the best starting point for Tarkovsky, because it's his best work imo and more accessible than Mirror for example. Though all 3 are masterpieces. Ivan's Childhood and Solaris would also be good starting points.

i would've never thought of everything that happened in the movie with the historical context that you explained because I'm not good at that kind of thing. I was mainly focused on the character drama. i mean...the armbands that were given to the children when they misbehaved...how could i not see that! lol! gave me a new respect for the movie with this review. one thing i didn't understand was the relationship between the teacher and Eva. Seemed kind of meaningless.
