‘Everyone is welcome’. Some of the prices being demanded really are excluding some social economic groups I’m afraid. I know costs are high, but I’m not sure YHA is truly open to everyone anymore. Saturday night prices need a £40k a year job, the top 10% of society.

Thank you for your feedback and for raising your concern. At YHA, we strive to make our unique and historic hostels accessible to as many people as possible. To maintain these exceptional properties, we must balance fair and affordable prices with covering our costs. Our pricing adjusts throughout the year based on demand, ensuring fair pricing. YHA members and young people who book direct receive discounted stays every day of the year. At least 30% of our beds and rooms are available at the lowest possible prices - booking early helps you secure these deals. Our prices are set to cover our costs, ensuring we can continue offering these services long term. We understand that costs can be a concern, and we are committed to making YHA accessible to everyone. We appreciate your support and hope you'll continue to find value in our services.

I noticed Bryn Gwynant Hostel, ( Snowdonia) a hostel I have been to so many times. It's been closed sadly for some years now so I do wonder why it was ' featured' on this enjoyable film. I'm hoping that the money can be found to bring this YHA hostel back into use.

What a delightful trip down memory lane! It's incredible to see how YHA adventures have been captured on film since 1931, and this celebration video beautifully weaves together scenes from the past with more recent clips. It's a testament to the enduring spirit of exploration and community fostered by YHA over the years. Huge thanks to the Yorkshire Film Archive for preserving these precious moments for us to enjoy! 🌟

That last shot is of tanners hatch, now only available as a whole hostel booking at £200 to £250 a night with a 2 nt minimum stay. A whopping £800 a night in July and August. Now often stood totally empty. Only for rich people with exclusive use. No longer inclusive and open for all. No longer an option for 99% of people. Sorry to all those who built it, ran it, cleaned it, fixed its roof, sorted its garden, painted its walls and over many many decades of volunteering. I’m feeling sad.

….and some dorm beds now cost £50 a night, and some private rooms cost over £300 a night. Saturday nights are not for poor people anymore.

Very telling that prices were omitted from this, its something everyone would consider useful info. Y.H.A was a cheap way to be able to see parts of the country, but now it's too expensive to be accessible to me 😢

I stayed in this hostel in early 1999, as part of a year 6 school group (St John's primary in Coventry). Whilst all we did here was sleep as we hiked miles and miles in horrendous conditions, my 11 year old legs struggled; it's one of the best experiences I have of primary school. I remember the building well!

A very slick video showcasing the wonderful work done behind the scenes when everyone has departed to ensure its ready for the next arrivals .Ive had some memorable stays at YHA Lizard volunteering helping out , it was always a privilege easing the burden with the special manager Chris , sadly COVID stopped all that and it breaks my heart to think those days are over ,as group bookings seems to have now taken over as the new business model for this special place .
