So awesom! I been playing some kind of fingerstyle for a few years, but i didnt really know how to do it right, as i never got my thumb going the way it needed to. This was Super Zen and just what i needed.

my main problem with CAGED is that, the way that its taught is not the way that its used CAGED is more about visualizing a region rather than chord shapes people claim that CAGED is how the fretboard was designed, which is not, the original guitar had only 4 strings, the 5th was added in the baroque era and 6th in classical era, so guitarist could play accompany on the bass register, and they did not played chords the way we play today, they played contrapuntal music so the real layout of the guitar is not CAGED, it is close triads on the top 4 strings, as in the right hand of the piano, and bass on the lower 2 strings, as in the left hand of the piano its way simpler to understand the fretboard using the concept of slash chords, and it gives you a much richer harmonic repertoire because it plays with a much bigger variety of intervals inside chords, while in CAGED you are stuck with 3rds, 5ths and their inverted 4ths and 6ths versions, with slash chords you get all the 12 pitch spectrum
@BLazLessons
@BLazLessons Ай бұрын
The biggest part I agree with you is that the problem is the way it's taught: young guitarists are told "learn CAGED." they go online and find hundreds of videos about caged claiming to teach them everything from scales to arpeggios to soloing. It does not teach you any of these things, it's just a cool thing to notice about how the chord shapes connect up the neck.

Thank you B Laz! Not a Travis picker, but over the years I would noodle with stuff like Dust In The Wind, and sound bad because like a lot of people I just want to go straight to full speed. After sitting down with this video just twice, remarkable improvement from just slowing down and learning the movements. My goal is to learn the Travis rythym part for Octopus's Garden (I'm a Beatles fan).
