Should have watched part one before I watched part 2 answers my question of class 27 replacement by class 37 in 85

I remember back in late 70's the diesel locos used where Bo-Bo classes 2?, as was the Highland line to Inverness. They some times did a very good impression of steam locos with plumes of smoke and fire. When was the change to bigger class Co-Co as this would have require bridge and track works for the 3 axles bogies and greater loco weight.

Great Video but must add Arrochar (and Tarbert ) Station was removed after it was destroyed in a fire in late 1970s , it was Ardlui that was removed due to subsidence
@GordonDWebsterАй бұрын
@@eddiemackinnon528 thanks for the kind words. Though not sure you are correct about that. I’m fairly sure Arrochar’s was also a subsidence issue and without a doubt it was not in the 1970s. Arrochar still had a station building in the 1990s, which can be seen pictured in BR Past and Present book of NW Scotland, which I believe was taken around 1996-1998. You could be confusing it with Taynuilt on the Oban line. I believe its’ building was destroyed by fire.
@GordonDWebsterАй бұрын
@@eddiemackinnon528 Also, where did you hear the building was destroyed by fire?

I dont mind 156 trains but you would think for tourism purposes they would adapt a 3 car set to be more open and a small buffet area. I bet these lines will see 158's once their use has been expired on other parts of the network.

I found your channel tonight and watched the 'History of the West Highland Line'. Fantastic! I thoroughly enjoyed your videos and loved the way you talked passionately and informatively about the lines. So much that I bought your book and will look out for the Friends of the West Highland Railway. Thank you very much.

Thank-you. Having emigrated in 1987 to New Zealand, this brings back many happy memories. I have walked, driven, and travelled by train many times to and from Fort William, Oban, and Mallaig. Looking forward to part two.

Just started viewing - I love that line and first did it on the sleeper from Crewe with my Dad on a snowy day in February 1988. The return on a loco hauled service was truly wonderful in the snow and sunshine on the mid afternoon Fort William to Glasgow train - will never forget it. I’ve been on it many times since and hope to come up again next winter.

On the 1:25000 map there's a path marked and a pull off right under the monument - looks as though there is a way marker. Overgrown but only 100m off the main road.

great video,brings back memories as I was a relief Signalman at Dumbarton and covered Dumbarton Craigendoran Bowling Westerton and Milngavie, Craigendoran was the only box where you checked the weather forecast and tides table cause the water would come up through the ballast and over the sea wall just where your points for the West Highland Line split for to go into Helensburgh, Dumbarton was a great box lots of points and sidings to play with, happy days😁👍
