1. "The guy who owns the land" - title to the cemetery should be held in a trust. Depending on local laws, cemeteries are typically exempt from property taxes. 2. There should be/have been a professional, documented, recorded survey clearly marking the boundaries of the cemetery. Very important if encroachment may be a problem in the future. 3. There should be a precision map of the cemetery and locations of known graves, unidentified broken pieces, etc. We now have the technology. Should many choices of computer software. 4. Dowsing wires really do work to find unmarked graves. And verify marked ones. Ground Penetrating Radar is effective, but also expensive. 5. Put out a couple battery-operated trail cams. There may possibly be other video surveillance and security systems that would provide more comprehensive coverage. These are becoming very capable and affordable now. 6. Learn to shoot and then carry firepower when out prowling these places alone. Or bring along a buddy who does know how to shoot. A little stick is not effective against tweakers.

Oh, that's just heartbreaking! I'm glad you got to keep some pieces, knowing those are original to the place. It would have been nice if you could have taken a few starts from that wisteria and plant it where you live now. I once had a house that was over 100 years old and the previous owner (who was there 50 years) planted wisteria next to the porch. But that may have been planted by one of your ancestors too.

When you're filming, it would be better to not go from side to side so quickly. It makes some people dizzy. Thank you.

I have found out where some of my ancestors were buried - some in North Carolina and some in Arkansas. But there are some that I can't find anything about. Now I wonder if their headstones were taken. Some counties make lists of the headstones in cemeteries, and I know in the 1800s there were lists of where Revolutionary War soldiers were buried.
@ellen49564 ай бұрын
Maybe the developers did it. You might be able to get some protection from the local historical society, or they might be able to tell you who can if they can't.
@tammyhunter64666 ай бұрын
Why not clean it up and then try to make that house and cemetery a historical site so it won't gwt torn down. And fix it up
@suenorton60326 ай бұрын
and why didn't you take tools that would help you do a proper job of uncovering them? I get trying to get them on findagrave but pictures should be of cleaner clearer headstones. I do know ancestry owns findagrave and they keep track of how many are uploaded by individuals, however count should not be more important than properly uncovering them

This 3000 grave pioneer cemetery was desecrated by the Masonic Ventura California City Council in the 1960s (San Buenaventura, one of the original Spanish Missions town). Even though the bodies are still there, the City has turned the cemetery into a 7 acre dog park, with the dogs defecating everyday on the pioneers' graves. Please share and comment. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bKvQq6h4bryXjsksi=2dnqIJWTjFpMffI4

Anybody interested in the Spanish American war, there is an organization called the sons of Spanish American war veterans. There are two forms of membership, hereditary membership, for those who had family members served during the time of the Spanish American war in Philippine insurrection. And then there is associate membership for those who do not have family ties, but who are interested in the history.

I agree with you. We are moving forward and we are letting our history go to ruins. Many people today look at an old building and say eww it’s outdated. They would rather live in an ugly and usually not as strong house than an old strong and beautiful house. I’d like to be able to save some historic places if I can.
@Crazyguy_123MC10 ай бұрын
It’s a shame you couldn’t get the house. If you had been able to you would have continued the decades of your family history there. It’s unfortunate that most care more about money than history. I’d like to one day save an abandoned house. I’d probably move it away so a developer can use the land and I can have an old house.
@Crazyguy_123MC10 ай бұрын
That’s so disrespectful of those people. Nobody deserves their grave to be desecrated like that. I hope you and your family can get it back together.

I am sorry the house was destroyed. It is hard to see a landmark of your family ancestors abandoned, vandalized, and demolished. Thankfully, you made a video to remember the house. The lovely bones and the beautiful light from the windows in each room show how your ancestors designed it to be to be a bright and gracious home.
