I just got into fly tying but I have very big, ambitious ideas. One of these is an articulated deer hair topwater snake. This video will be tremendously helpful when I eventually attempt it. Thanks for the video!

Be sure to send a photo when you complete your snake. Looking forward to seeing your work.

what can in use instead of a deer hair stacker?
@shawnwest8922 жыл бұрын
Heath..In a pinch I have used my hands as a stacker. I prefer using the stacker shown in the video. That being said, the bass can care less if all the tips align properly. Do the best with what you have on hand. Good luck!!!

Shawn, Thank you for posting these two fine videos. Do you have a link to where I could purchase templates, or did you make that yourself based on information from the chap you mentioned in the video? Cheers,

@shawnwest8923 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind words. What sort of patterns would you like to see?
@mikewalters49943 жыл бұрын
@@shawnwest892 It don't matter to me Shawn what pattern it is. I have been fly tying about four years and I thought I would never have any interest in tying these. But, that changed, I thought I would try a few. Just for the challenge I guess. I have tried about a dozen, solid colors with a red head. I have really enjoyed tying these. I'm gonna try and tie the multi colored one in this video today.

I live in South Alabama and I'm gonna start fly fishing for Bass. I've been fly fishing for Bluegill for years. I bought myself a fly rod for Christmas to Bass Fish with. It would be GREAT if you would tie another pattern that would be a good fly to fish for Large mouth Bass with. I really love your video's, you explain everything GREAT. I also, like the way you do the close ups, I can see what your doing. You don't need a camera man over your shoulder. The close ups you do are great shots. Thanks for sharing and keep the video's coming. They're the BEST!!!

Hello Gary, could you tell me what style hook you are using Tiemco, Daiichi, Mustad etc. I spent 50 years in Az. and relocated to Washington state in 2012. I've been asked by my daughter in law to tie some flies for replacements for the ones she lost and this one is on the list. Thanks much Gary. Great video by the way.
@shawnwest8924 жыл бұрын
This is Shawn responding. I use a TMC 3761 for my ladies. I will contact Gary to see what he uses. If he uses a different hook, I will let you know. BTW, I also relocated from Arizona to Washington state back in 1996. Regards Shawn
