This is interesting. I was just made aware this past week via genology research and has been made aware that i had multiple family members in acadia. Some were deported to louisiana. Some managed to escape to quebec and survive. Was considering maybe applying for metis status but not for the money. I grew up by a reserve and metis settlement. My dad has many cousins that are metis. All possible tropes of not the same as being in it... i know. But i dont care about the money. I just want belonging. If i was accepted as metis and never recieved a dime i would still be happy. (Left the system 7 years ago -no government issued id- and havent looked back. I dont get any money for my kids, no gst cheques, absolutely nothing) I love metis culture. I love the language. I love the people. The only way to describe it is that being with metis people feels like home. But ive been too scared to fully immerse due to stigma of being an outsider and not knowing the ways. Im scared to apply because im concerned about being rejected. This podcast was very informative and interesting.

Nothing against Pete - he was one of my favourite players - but seeing how they've lowered the standards as to what constitutes a "star" these days to ensure a steady stream of inductees he'd meet today's standard.

Never a Habs fan, but always thought Pete was a beast of a player in his prime. Aside from the Summit Series SHG, the one I'll always remember was a game on HNIC against the Leafs. Score was tied 0-0 with 6 seconds to go. Pete wins the face-off and scores an unassisted goal with 2 seconds left to win it 1-0.

Not really, as his bad relationship with Mario Tremblay was front page news before his trade to the Pens...He was said to be anti-French either in razzing or in practice... The key incident? Pete Mahovlich and Mario Tremblay, who play for the Montreal Canadiens, were involved in a fight early Thursday after Montreal's defeat of Cleveland Wednesday night.. Tremblay, a right wing who was Mahovlich's roommate on the trip to Cleveland, did not play in Wednesday's game, and he was angered by remarks that Mahovlich made to him when he returned to his hotel room. After an exchange of harsh words, Tremblay threw a glass at Mahovlich. The glass missed its target but shattered against a door and fragments flew at Mahovlich, cutting his face and thigh. Mahovlich was taken to a hospital for 29 stitches. A spokesman for the team said Sam Pollock, the general manager, had received a report of the fight and considered the incident closed.

@JJGovernorCarrier Guess u know more than Larry Robinson about it my bad.
@JJGovernorCarrier4 күн бұрын
No, you have the third of the story...Robinson's book stated that rumour, but Little M was in the news for years for his distaste for French players - long before Robinson was even in the league...They brought in Larouche because they felt the media and teammates gave him enough chances...He just burned all his bridges with Pollock

The Big M was 6 feet tall so now he would be the Smallish M. One thing with Mahovlich was that he could sometimes disengage from the game at times. I remember screaming at the TV as he skated from one blueline to the next then returned. Then something would happen, usually someone trying to hit him with a check, and it was if he was inspired. He would drive to the net and be unstoppable. I guess this is why he was so good in the playoffs

Had Mahovlich played his entire career in Montreal, he would have put numbers and had a career similar to that of Bobby Hull The Big M was a tremendous player, nonetheless, and ironically like Hull is often overlooked, especially by younger fans who never saw them play, and who have a tendency to diss and downplay superstars from years past (they played with plumbers, etc.)
