I believe the resort you're asking about is the Marien Puerto Plata Hotel, used to be a Be Live. It's the furthest one down Playa Dorada at the end of a strip of all inclusives. I have a walking tour of that beachfront & a tour up the mountain on my channel if you're interested. Cheers, 🍻🍻🍻

It does in spots for sure, it's all about your expectations. Some people are put off by old fixtures and furniture, but if you can get past that it's a solid 3.5 star, at least our room and our particular week. And it was cheap compared to other areas, and the flight times out of Halifax NS were great. Many things to consider when planning a trip, everyone's needs are slightly different. Cheers, 🍻

Thanks! Honestly it's 3rd out of 3, but it's cheaper than PC and the food is wayyy better than Cuba, but we still spent about 6 hours a day in the water, so all & all a good trade off. Waiting for Cuba to get better as their beaches are #1, but sadly, I think we'll be waiting for a long time. Cheers 🍻

The resort has a beach party and a foam pool party every week. But the places is big enough you can avoid that and find places to swim, eat, relax, etc.

Hey Jojo, sorry for the late reply. You can certainly snorkel this beach, right in front of this resort, down to the left & right by the other resorts. Absolutely bring your gear, this beach in under rated & lots to explore. We went just outside the resort & there was a little retail market with some shops & market type stuff & lots of horse & buggies looking for a few hours work. We didn't bother, but I'm sure it would be a fun experience. There's a town (Melilla) about 2-3 kms away, I assume lots of resort worker call it home. More of an apartment type set-up & it's Cuba, so a little rough around the edges. (likely by appearance only) We don't do excursions, we're beach people & soak up as much as we possibly can. The rooms were basic but clean, I would call this a laid back resort, some might say boring, I say prefect. Cuba is lacking in a lot of things right now, do your homework & decide if the beaches, the people & the laid back vibe are worth you $$$ when there will be shortages of things you'd expect to be there. @@DavePulsifer Thank you sir for your reply , I like a laid back setting outside the resort the rugged land scape and meet the locals that are not influence yet so much of tourist and learn their culture . Even the beach I like a bit rugged shore and just patches of sand for the kids to swim , if you don't mind can you tell me if there are locals that I can meet outside the resort because I am planning to bring some stuff that we take for granted here which they will really appreciate like some used small electronics , used adult and children clothes and shoes . @@bumblebeejazz1 Along with filing any extra space I have in my suitcase with gifts, I usually e-mail guest services, & while asking for some room requests (top floor, king bed, close to the beach, those kind of things) I ask them specifically if they need me to bring anything. I remember 1 trip it was childrens Tylenol for fever. Her sister was pregnant (I think? maybe her?) So I went to the $$$ store & stocked up cause it's the same stuff but 1/4 of the price. She was super appreciative, and talk about starting a trip on the right note. But you can also branch out, maybe reach some folks without ties to tourism & make someone's day, lots of ways to improve things for others & so rewarding. Cheers,🍻🍻🍻

Thanks for that, really glad you enjoyed it. I did do 1 voice over video for this resort but it focued more on the back side of the resort as it would have been pretty boing without it. I enjoyed my stay, we'd return, even in the same room catigory as we loved the location & wouldn't need an upgrade. Food was average to good for PC, all depends on your own preferances but you won't go hungry. It has a family side & an adults side, so by al means bring your 3 year old. Lots of pool area, a water park for kids, just watch the ocean as the waves in some parts of Bavaro Beach can knock an adult on thier butt if they're not carefull!! Cuba is going through a hard time for a number of reasons that I won't get into here. Just google it & there's tons of information availible. It was never a place to go if quality of food was high on the priority list for your vacation, & it's much worse now. Many shortages. As far as rooms it's been a while so I'm not sure if there have been any renovations, I would look for more recent YT videos & see if they're showing any renos in particular rooms. As far as room location, we asked for a basic 2nd floor room right next to the beach enterence & also asked for a corner room which we received. You'll see in my other video the view from that room. It gives you an extra large wrap around deck & it made our vacation, it was basic but perfact. Cuban people & beaches are the best, so make the best of it if you're already booked, maybe bring water shoes & floaties, & whatever you can for gifts for the maids. Hope this helped. Cheers. 🍻🍻🍻

I traveled with my family.. so technically 3 adults and 1 kid. we had one king bed, and they brought out 2 cots and just put them together. keep in mind though.. depends where you are in the resort.. some of the suites are smaller than others... I've been to the resort several times.. if you don't like it, don't be shy to ask for a different room, they're more than happy to help you out.

You can move between the resorts I believe, but I don't think there are any shared services or Stay @ 1 & Play at 2/3 type set-ups. Hope that helps, Cheers.

It didn't blow my scoks off, but I complained about very little. Loved the Colonial Club, close to the room & private for CC guests & always good snacks in there. That being said I've had meals in Cuba that where just as good, with better variety, depends one the day no matter where you are! Cheers,

We're lazy travellers, I bring long pants ect. to go to the restaurants, but always end up @ the buffet & have no regrets!! Most times if you have a pair of dockers & a shirt with sleeves you're good, other times they're a little more strict. See the link for the specific dress codes required. I have no idea what you & your partners needs/wants are in a resort, so it's hard for me to say. It's a good resort that covers a lot of the things most people are looking for, but depends on a lot of factors. Have you been away before? Are you beach or pool people? How important is food & room cleanliness? Do you like party resorts or more laid back? what time of year are you going? What would absolutely ruin a trip for you? I don't think this is a honeymoon type resort. Either of the 3. I'd look into Aruba or Antigua. I stayed at the Elegance last year, but going back to the Colonial this year. But, it's all about preference...

I feel ya. In my eyes, the word "honeymoon" ups the ante in expectations. But, I'm huge on being able to leave the resort, and feel safe. I don't feel that vibe in the DR, even though it's "cheap", so we stay on the resort which is fine with us. We just vacation to get the hell out of NY. So, if you want to go in the middle, try Grand Fiesta Americana in Cancun. Yeah, you see military police in the back of pickups, and on the beach, but they're not looking for you. Lol. Try to get room 403, find Alex at the pool bar. I've stayed at Dreams Sands, but too much timeshare haggling imo. I've read and watched multiple items about Excellence Punta Cana. I plan ongoing there eventually. Avg is 1600 pp.
