one thing that gen 2 does better than all the others, in my humble opinion, is VIBES. that color palette, while limited, is very beautiful. the sprites are sick. the lore and the world building is immaculate. it's a shame that the level curve is busted and the pokemon availability is frustrating, but they weren't intended to be played with optimization in mind. gen 2 is all about the journey. i got a lot of love for gen 2 (obviously) but in the modern landscape it really doesn't hold up that well.

BW2 had the last 2d gameplay, the best graphics (subjective ofc), some shitty mons but some great designs but what differenciates them are the quality of life upgrades and the innovations added, specially post game, I can tell you didnt really like them but it objectively cant be below S/M or US/UM cmooon

I agree Scarlet Violet shouldn't have the open world stuff, I think it's bad in general. I don't get the whole hype about making everything open world. For replayability, it's not that great. It feels annoying, takes forever because of how poorly the game runs and well for obvious reason it's not really nuzlockeable. I loved the endgame, QoL features and competitive aspects of the game. You should definitely check out the DLCs though, they are kinda fun, the story is kind of like a new game and the Blueberry Academy is like an additional Elite 4 with a twist. If you spend 40 bucks on DLC or 40 Bucks on Yellow/Crystal/Emerald/Platinum, it's kinda the same imo. Other than that respectable list

I personally don't consider cultural significance when rating the games, but I completely understand why this makes games like DP and FRLG be rated higher. The influence of DP on the community is one of the very few positives of these games. By pure gameplay standards, they are way closer to the bottom.

I totally agree with you BDSP got so much unwarranted hate. I am super excited for it to be decompiled! Since it was made in unity we can get native android pokemon fan games and such and that's awesome!

RBY is absolutely terrible. Literally the only good things going for it are the impact, which I'm sure is the only reason it ranks so high, and good looking pokemon designs (although the stat design was almost as bad as GSC)

got urself a sub with that ultra sun/moon opinion, i loved those games and the fact that were hard but not impossible for someone who was 9 or 10 years old at the time was amazing. although i would say legends arceus is deserving of at least incredible for me, and s&v i think is just good

Agree with the Ultra Sun take. I love that game. It was an amazing experience. It’s the first game I got back into after like a 10 year break from Pokemon and it blew me away

The BDSP takes were fucking Biased. Unlike ScarVi it actually got patched and the art styles is adorable. Only knock against it is that the speedrun requires you to turn the music off.

I think that BDSP was a massive missed opportunity. But granting us Pokemon on the Unity engine has allowed us to see massize ambitious rom hacks like Re:illuminated. I think years down the line we will look back on those games as the golden opportunity to bring this community together to build the best modern platform to create the best rom hacks of the future and I think thats incredible.

Ultra sun and moon are excellent as games, but they completely botched a really good story that S&M had going. ultra recon team is a waste of time and lusamine's rewriting feels like an undermining of her character. Lillie also got completely screwed and had ~80% of her scenes removed or changed in a way that made her less relevant that said, gameplay is FIRE. harder, more variety, more fun, more options. great old time. people give it too much shit for the cutscenes and mashing A dialogue even though a lot of older games had the same issue

Scarlet and Violet should’ve had dynamic gyms that changed based on how many badges you had along with the encounters leveling up with each badge as well. Probably ridiculously convoluted on the programming side of things, but definitely would’ve been more conducive to that open world feel. Being able to do anything in any order would feel incredible replaying. Still overall great game just poorly optimized.
