@NikZvi14 күн бұрын

If I get it correctly, you start pushing on the inside edge with the pushing foot, while the skating foot goes outside edge. Which is almost the same as figure skating on ice, ie, it's like spinning the ice floor left and right :-) But maybe I completely misunderstood it, due to my obsession with ice skating :-)
@NikZvi2 ай бұрын
Yep, if we're talking about edges you're right. Although as far as I know this technique is effective only for inline skating, it doesn't give much to ice skating.
@MarcoBrandizi2 ай бұрын
@@NikZvi I've tried on inlines too. To me, but I'm not an expert, the major difference seems that on ice you push more in diagonal, while on wheels you need a more parallel push, due to the different grip. Also, you rarely go super-fast in figure skating, at least, not at my level.

Viktor Thorup (he is Sophia's Prosvirnova husband and also an experienced Olympian :) ) just released Short with a title starting with "How not to skate... " He addressed details explained in your video and some previous street skating tips. I'd challenge his statement that "outer edge" (with single push initiated at outer edge, hence more body weight assistance) is wrong. Other than that, your spinning globe demo explains benefit from "early pressure" as opposed to disadvantage of "late push", which I was guilty of as well as in "over-push" (too longs and slow inner push). Thanks for making my skating more efficient! Average Speed to HR ratio supports that statement, not only subjective feeling of less exertion, which is the case as well.

@@NikZvi Shortly: will be doing as you explained. Most pro-skaters I checked doing the same, but not all, Pascal Briand for example. Not so shortly, I was landing wheels variably: vertically and on the outer edge, and now I have no explanation, why to land on midline when during cross-overs "inner wheels" are always land on the outer edge? Lengthily. Mechanically, it's similar to running when at the moment of ground contact, the food should follow rear direction vector, not vertical, not forward, which slows you down. For skating, pushing inwards is more effective when wheels move inward before the contact and just keep going without interruption into active phase of push. Of course, when you are gliding on one foot, as "anti busy legs syndrome therapy", vertical landing is imminent. I, just for longer glide sake, even combine short outward, inner, long outward pushes. It's a snake, not double or "triple" push, AKA "it's different, you have to understand".

Wearing knee protection but no helmet!? I don't get it! Wear a helmet!
@NikZvi6 ай бұрын
Well, I wear helmet most of the time. In my video on protection gear I put it on the first place as the most important protective item. But also for all my practice of inline skating I scratched my knees an infinite amount of times and I've never hit my head, not even once, even in a helmet. I know that one hit will be enough, so I wear it almost always, when I do something even slightly dangerous. But not that time, don't really remember the reason. Maybe I just forgot it... But I should do, even as such a small influencer as I am.

I don't think that yoga can do any harm to your skating ( if it is a good yoga with professional coach), it should otherwise give some benefits, some elements require good stretching etc. And don't also think that skating can ruin yoga. Guess they are beneficial to each other.

T-stop it's exactly what advanced skaters must avoid! It kill your wheels and have long way to complete stop. You all must replace it with soul slide, which is more effective!
@NikZvi6 ай бұрын
Advanced skaters do not avoid t-stop, thay just use it when and where it is applicable. First of all t-stop is not the move for full stop, it is a way of speed control (the soul also btw). For full stop it is much better to use two feet stops like parallel, magic, powerstop or at least powerslide. Second there are certain conditions in which only t-stop could be used for speed control, for example on gravel, on cobblestones, on some types of tiles, or on the narrow tracks where there is not enough place for other techniques (the heel brake can do the same but nonone uses it). Even the perfect soul ( and there are not too much people who can casually make a perfect soul) requires more place to perform than t-stop. yeah it kills wheels, but soul also does, parallel does it twice size. It is great to have other techniques but anyway T-stop is an essential technique that any begginer should master. And plus it's easy.

Great tips all around. However, one thing might be missing. Speed skaters seem to talk about one main difference between fitness skating and speed skating, that being "leading with the hips" and then "falling" into each stride which they call weight transfer. What do you make of this? I think it might be one important concept to be able to reach those crazy high speeds without wasting much too much energy, I'm still trying to get the hang of it.

Hi Hi Nik, I personally made several mistakes when starting out on inline skates. The first was that you have to train on a flat surface. I started on a bit of an incline with an elevation. Another was an inappropriate push. When a person learns it wrong, he does it wrong for a long time. My next misstep was speed. Seeing your videos when you're going fast is very motivating, but I've learned that I need to start riding slower. Mainly because of the surfaces. Driving in our small town, where in front of every apartment building there are different tiles, asphalt, concrete, pieces of branches, rockeries, is completely different than, for example, on the cyclo asphalt in Germany, or even in your place in Saint Petersburg. Also the fact that if someone wants to take this sport seriously, they shouldn't start with soft boot skates. That's how I started. A mistake. I should have gone to buy more expensive hard boot skates right away. About 150 euros and more. Protectors are also important. Seeing how you and others like you are doing without protectors can mislead beginners. Even if a person has protectors and falls, he can also fall on his knuckles. Previous mistakes cost me both broken wrists. That's why there are so many new skates for sale in bazaars. Allegedly due to lack of time or the size of the shoe 😄😄😄.. Nevertheless, I continue on, watching your videos, but if I could turn back time like this: 1. Hard boot 2. Protectors 3. Push training. 4. Power stop. 5 jumps 6. Back skating... And only then increasing the speed. I wish you good health. Your subscriber inline skater jojo from Ružomberok, Slovakia. 🫶👈
