That guitar filler is to live for. My mind plays every note. Gosh how I miss Chuck, we're just blessed to have his gift to play and listen to 😊

Charles Earland (organ), Melvin Sparks (guitar), and Idris Muhammad (drums) were my favorite rhythm section of the late '60s/early '70s.

I remember when Stormburner (9:19) was the hymn of the internet for one week or 2... A rock band playing funk in a french touch way, casually delivering a groundbreaking melody/vocals mix... The whole recording is cool, but Stormburner is an absolute banger that needs to be heard. TO THE ARTISTS: PLEASE REFERENCE YOUR WORK ON SPOTIFY!!!

I so appreciate this. I heard it on WDCB Jazz 90.9 coming from Chicago one day and been trying to find it ever since. Well… I found it and jammed all the way home with the windows down. Every one watching me bopping in my seat 😂😂🎉🎉 Real party music to dance to..

Sometimes I forget that throughout the early to mid to even the late 70s, there were jazz artists who dared to dip their toes in the waters of R&B, Soul, Funk, and even disco. Thanks to Miles D, who gave his stamp of approval to young Jazz artists to not cling to old traditional standards of Jazz. Handcock, Benson, Duke, Ayers, and Washington were among the most popular, but many others still go unsung as taking Jazz on a smooth groove trip. Charles Earland, Indris Muhammad, and Lonnie Listen Smith never got the credit they deserved, nevertheless thanks for posting because without forums like this, I might have forgotten the wealth of beautiful music from that time. Thanks again!

Charles Earland was special, did some amazing stuff, wouldn't have been possible without the likes of Arthur Grant, Jack turner, Gábor Szabó to name a few, two of the best albums of the 70s the great Pyramid and odyssey took you to another dimension

Love Charles Earland, got a chance to see him live in Charleston, South Carolina during the seventies. This song was originally done by a group called Spiral Staircase.

As a young teenager in the 60's I loved going through the public library's record collection; got started on big-band and then moved on to 50's/60's jazz. My favorites were the masters of the B3: Charles Earland, Brother Jack McDuff, Jimm McGriff and of course Jimmy Smith. My love for the B3 (with Leslies) has stayed with me for my entire life.

I listen to this album since I was a kid. Every summer vacation played it in the car during our long trip. Since I growing up with it there is for me something so familiar, it feels just like home even if was never near my home when I listened to it. In general I am more into instruments, sounds of the voice and melody than in lyrics. Even if I don’t speak Portuguese/Brazilian the way he speak/sing touch me so much. I feel it has so much energy, it’s intense and feel to me so sincere in the way he sings and the sound of the instrumental. All that in “douceur” (I can’t really expressed it in English). I feel so happy and a little bit sad. Later when I was much older when I was in a car to the way home of vacation, I rediscovered the album and this song. I was sad of leaving someone I will never see again but I had great and short memories with. This again touch just in the perfect spot my sentiments. I perfectly felt the happy/melancholy feeling. I was crying. Suddenly I realise that I never really knew what the lyrics were about (Portuguese is not far way from French so I had a little idea by the title but I never put attention on it). When I found out the meaning of the lyric this beautiful music was emphasised. Even if it’s simple the music and the lyrics go so so well together. His voice and this high pitch light ukelele (i am not sure if it’s that) are so perfect. Art is what goes through time and life of people. It makes people feel something deep in their emotions, in their body that are so indescribable.

Nothing. That’s what I love about the Butthole Surfers. They truly did whatever they wanted for whatever random reason that felt good and logical at the time. The bass is pretty heavy on both tracks though, but the BHS are the true rock legends.
