I'm using myself one hand spamming, but i fear it need to be dealt with by rules, its not very sexy and quality wise i find often the hit shouldnt be taken in account by the refere as the sword isnt even banding its not op, or hard to counter, just not gonna help hema grow as ppl come in for cool cut and nice blow and clearly blue is very stronger than yellow imo, not judging at all and saying he only know one hand attack btw

Yellow had the more honest technique in his cuts and thrusts. I liked how he didn’t treat the bout like lightsabre tag.
@frenchgalloglass52047 ай бұрын
the reason they treat it like lightsabre tag, is because the rules allow them to, and I would say even encourage it :/

Is this the kind of ruleset where you can negate an opponents point by quickly scoring one yourself. So that kamikaze attacks like in karate kumite don't work. I heard about this system in Hema but couldn't find anything about it
@jarekchrzanowski68977 ай бұрын
when is "double" hit so hit from both sides...is few rulesets even in one country, but general rule is stay alive ;-)

I'm new to hearing about this. Is there a level or rank where you have to defend a dummy body from harm? From the opponent? I just figured it would be more difficult than moving in an area. Defending someone behind you from someone.
@jarekchrzanowski68978 ай бұрын
no, this is simply duel. HEMA is fencing with copy (this same size, weight, balans) of historical weapon

Kerri is very, very, very nice person. And i care only my own limits - i'm old, fat and ugly...but i love sabre...and Kerri also - so i don't care. And i preffer Kerri sabre - then David's (sorry David if you see this, but this is true). HEMA is for all and...If you fighter, HEMA fencer...fighter...fight with Kerri is very demanding. Yes, i'm better but this is a challenge, every time, to show this in good style. I know a lot of fencers - good, very good and no so good, and i dont care who is who in ranking. i'm trying be better fencer and better man, and only this count.

So sad to see how red prevents any fencing and instead jumps around. He relies solely on his speed and doesn't need any technique. The fact that he can also take hits and also hopes to simply be faster in his defence shows how little he understands about fencing. Yes, speed/timing/distance is part of it - but it's not everything. As blue, I would have simply gone for double hits. Yes, that's not goal-orientated either, but Red didn't care anyway and it wasn't possible to fence sensibly anyway.
@pydracor98611 ай бұрын
why are you pretending to do HEMA if it's sport fencing in the end? Would be nice not to see jumping and bouncing but clean techniques according to the historical manuals. And pls stop using cuphilt rapiers for fencing in styles, that are desined in a period where they haven't been invented yet.
@kwaks948611 ай бұрын
Cuphilts are better for finger protection, fencing masks are completely out of period. Are you 100% sure that no one was jumping during the entire age of rapier? And even if, then how many jumps in a row you propose be penalised during the tournament?
@pydracor98611 ай бұрын
You can't ban jumping around in a tournament and it would be pointless. You have to and can deal with it as an opponent. It's just not beautiful fencing, nor is it particularly multi-faceted or technically demanding. It reduces fencing to a sporting component in which you essentially hope to be more athletic than your opponent. Ultimately, it excludes a crucial part of HEMA: the understanding of the martial art in the sense of a historical reappraisal. The difference to modern sport fencing, which is all about scoring points in a match, is then very small. However, a tournament can very well be seen as part of research in the sense of HEMA without being sport fencing.@@kwaks9486
@pydracor98611 ай бұрын
Cuphilts provide more protection, but that's exactly the point: this protection allows you to fence differently than was actually possible under a system that was developed earlier. Yes, a tournament is always a compromise and that's ok and can't be done any other way. However, the fact that some people in this tournament don't seem to make any effort at all to practise the martial arts fits in with this... It's just a shame to see, because for some of the participants it obviously spoils the fun. There are indeed very successful tournaments with fencers who endeavour to use clean technique. Here, the desire to hit seems to take precedence over everything else - including not getting hit.@@kwaks9486
