This is absolutely fantastic to see. Big fit and healthy fish putting on a show! Recently moved here to WA from Scotland, finding it tough to track down some spots for good brown trout fishing. Following your videos intently trying to pick up some tips!! Keep them coming pal 👍🏼

Hi mate first up love your vids man keep them coming watch all your stuff so far just a quick question I’ve been fishing navarino also tried Harvey just recently caught zero both places. Anyway I just want to know what would be our best months to try and is summer still worth a crack or not cheers pal.

Hi mate, last year I was still catching trout well into December, which surprised me. I stopped fishing for them when the number of people at the lakes started to get disgusting as the weather warmed up. Good luck with it!

Hey mate, awesome fish, I’ve just been in Pemberton this weekend, caught 13 rainbows and 2 browns all on my own tied flies!! Would love to get onto some bigger fish like yours, just wondering what flies are best and how to fish them in this dam?
@winterwolf7249Ай бұрын
Hi mate, I often use Woolly Buggers. Small wets are also good. I think anything that looks like an insect or small minnow would work. Black and Peacocks are good. Well done catching fish on your own flies!

G'day, I think egg flies would probably still work in Oct, but I was using size 10 to 12 wet flies and nymphs. A nymph with a pink bead head worked pretty well down deeper and a Black and Peacock is always worth a go anywhere!

@winterwolf72492 ай бұрын
Hi mate, the only thing I can suggest is to just keep trying. You will crack it sooner or later. I had a lot of searching and fishless trips before I started to regularly catch trout in WA.

Hey mate what type of fly line you using off the boat?
@winterwolf72492 ай бұрын
Hi, I usually use a sink tip. Something like a Scientific Anglers Sonar cold water line with a sinking tip. However, where I hooked the fish out from the beach a floating line would be fine as it is only about 4 foot deep.

I’m surprised, I would have thought small brooks like that in winter would be dry in summer, they would be here in SA. Looks like instead they hold a healthy stock of fish! Great video,Ta
@winterwolf72493 ай бұрын
Thanks mate. A lot of these small streams do dry up during the summer but when the water is flowing down them the fish move up from the lake or river that they flow into.

Hey mate what flies and setup do you find works well in these dams? Loving the videos
@winterwolf72493 ай бұрын
Hi mate, I use Woolley Buggers on a sink tip line sometimes. Small wets, like Black and Peacocks, are good. Sometimes I cast and retrieve these wets and sometimes I drift them under an indicator. In the winter, in the creeks, I use egg flies like the Clear Drift eggs.
@outdooradventureswa84364 ай бұрын
Hey mate, I went for a fly fish with my dad a week or two ago, I saw you fishing at the mouth of this creek, I didn’t catch any and talking to the other fisherman there didn’t seem like you had either, I was just wondering what flies you recommend for spots like this and other skinny water spots this time of year, and also how long trout will remain up the creeks to catch? I was slightly further upstream than you casting at some fish we spotted earlier in the day, not sure if you saw us though.
@winterwolf72494 ай бұрын
Hi mate, cool, come and say g'day next time. During winter I use the clear drift egg flies. 8mm orange ones work well most times. I have had to order them from NZ or the US (you need to order hooks for them too as they are just the rubber egg - Tiemco TMC 2457 hooks in size 12 are good). Woolly Bugger wet flies work sometimes and smaller wets like Black and Peacocks or Bassano's Woolley Worm. Last year, when there had been a lot more rain, I was still catching trout in the creeks in December. I hope you get a few!

Great vid what weight line were you using on the lake. Can you disclose location
@winterwolf72495 ай бұрын
G'day. I use a 3 weight for dry flies on trout. I use a 5 for streamers, usually a 6 if it is windy. I like a sink tip line for fishing woolley buggers and streamer flies, but a floating line is ok too. This was Harvey Dam in the winter.

Hey mate just wondering what flies you are using here? And what dam it is?
@winterwolf7249 Жыл бұрын
Hi mate, I often use a size 10 or 12 Black and Peacock under the indicator. I have also used a fly called the J.W. Debutante (which I ordered online from the US). This fly has worked very well for me in Harvey Dam when rainbows are cruising the shallows and edges. Nymphs also work. If I'm using a dry as an indicator, I usually use a Royal Wulff, as they are pretty buoyant and fairly easy to see with the white wings. As for location, I have had really good sessions at times in all the dams from Waroona down to Big Brook Dam near Pemberton.

Cracking fish mate. Never caught a trout before - fish mostly in the Swan. Looking to get down to the SW to give it a crack. What time of year would you recommend for someone who fishes from a kayak?
@winterwolf7249 Жыл бұрын
Hi mate, any time of year is worth a try, but you may have to fish deep as the shallow margins heat up over summer. Always a chance of some big redfin by-catch too.
