This view shows exactly why bike paths and trails are needed. Many cyclist and runners don't want the risk of mingling with cars.

It would be nice to get safely from downtown to Coliseum Blvd and further north for commerce, commuting and recreation. If they can build these bridges and tunnels on the Monon Trail then hopefully it's just a matter of time before they come to northeast Indiana.

Fort Wayne thinks all cyclists should be on the sidewalk. Trails are sidewalks.

Is it going to connect to that neighborhood? If not, why not?

We hope so and have expressed interest in it being connected. It looks like there is currently a dirt path that connects them, but I can't imagine it's a very "official" connection. It will take some work between the neighborhood/homeowners, and since it's a city park located outside of city limits, both the city and county would likely be involved. It won't likely happen in this phase of the trail.

@@fortwaynetrails I hope it gets connected. We need it to be easy for people to make local trips car-free easily. Ped/bike shortcuts should be everywhere. :)

"trails" in fort Wayne= sidewalks in the rest of the universe. And the sidewalks on busy roads are barely usable since you can't safely cross the roads they are on. The city should be making safe sidewalks and changing their horrible stroads so that nonprofits can focus on actual trails through what little nature is left in this sprawl hell.

lol it's sad how true this is.. unfortunately, the lack of sidewalks will be the downfall of this city. Insane how downtown is really the only area where there are sidewalks and even there, the sidewalks are so terrible in so many places. they're impossible to ride on, forcing you to ride in the street.
