Hi, when you order these second hand online, do I need to make sure they come with the print cards? Is it just the older editions that need the print cards. Are the artworks printed straight on the page in the newer editions?

Would you say you would need the teacher's guide for this or could you go without?

Having the teacher guide/answer key makes checking the work so much easier, so yes, I recommend getting it. Some of the words are more difficult, and I would personally have a hard time knowing which answer was correct on my own.

Hi - I am planning to switch my rising 6th grader to Zeta - coming from using Good and Beautiful spiral math program. I know that Math-U-See teaches things like multi-digit multiplication differently. I am worried this will confuse her. Have you run into any problems with making the switch at this stage in the curriculum? Thanks!

The only issue that came up for my daughter was when concepts were reviewed from previous books. Most of these review sections were fine, but some were a little different than how she had learned them. I just had her solve the problems in the way she had learned them. It really wasn't that big of a deal. Hope this helps!

I love it. I'm so glad Latin is being taught again, and children's books being translated into Latin. Latin is important because it is the basis of French, Spanish, Italian, and of much of English. Its grammatical complexity imparts discipline of thought and eloquence. But this doesn't mean it can't be fun. Indeed, after the Minimus books, pupils can move on to the Latin editions of Asterix the Gaul, and to Winnie ille Pu and Ursus nomine Paddington😊

Of all the Latin you tried, what would be your choice for no Latin experience 5th grader?
@carolinescurriculumcorner466
@carolinescurriculumcorner466 7 ай бұрын
Of the programs that I have seen personally, I would go with either Prima Latina (intended for grades 1-4) or Latina Christiana (intended for grades 3-5) from Memoria Press, depending on your student and what you think they can handle. You can check out samples of the first chapter of each of these on their website to see which would be better for your student to start with. Even though Prima Latina is for grades 1-4, it is a simpler introduction than Latina Christiana, which might be difficult for some kids to just jump into. I hope this helps!

I'm sorry that it's been such a long time since I last posted. Life is so busy! We are still going strong with our homeschooling, working our way through high school now with my daughter (going into 11th this coming school year!), and my son will be going into 7th grade. In some ways it's easier as they get older because they can work more independently, and in other ways it's harder, because I have to be able to teach/help with higher math and science!

I’ve never used Math U See. I see that there are many worksheets for each lesson. How do you lay out your schedule for this? Do kids do one worksheet per day until mastered? Do they do multiple per day? I’m not understanding how this lays out in a schedule. Thank you!

In the younger levels, we usually didn't use every one of the worksheets. We did one worksheet per day, with the test on Friday. I always made sure we did the Systematic Review sheets though, since those ones review the previous lessons. In the high school levels, I do have my daughter do every single worksheet (so she does do more than one per day sometimes) so she gets more practice on the harder concepts. I think they include so many worksheets so that in case your child has difficulty with the topic, there are options to spread the lesson out longer and get more practice (which I have done occasionally). I hope this helps!

I actually love Song School Latin 1 and 2. Learning Latin through the songs and chants really helps the words and phrases stick. I still can sing many of the songs and chants even though it's been years since we used the books. They are intended for early elementary grades though, so your student might think it is too babyish for them. If so, then I would recommend starting with Prima Latina, especially if you will be learning the ecclesiastical pronounciation.

Yes, we plan to continue using Saxon with my son. I personally really like the Saxon method, but it doesn't mean that other math programs are bad or won't work. What grade level are you using with your daughter right now? I have always customized the lessons, whether they be the K-3 level or the above, to have the student be doing about half of the work that the curriculum wants them to do. My son currently does the odd numbers of Saxon 65. In the K-3 levels, we only did one side of the worksheet each day, not both.

Thank you so much for showing this in great detail! You’ve helped me make a well informed decision for the next school year. My daughter has ADHD and test anxiety. She’s 8yrs old. I’ve got her caught up and ahead in reading, science, math, and social studies. She’s struggled with writing sentences, spelling, and reading comprehension. I know it’s odd but she can read on a 4th grade level, do multiplication word problems, simple double digit multiplication, count money, time word problems and knows 38 states capitals and abbreviations. She’s very much a hands on learner. This will be perfect for her and my teaching style. I figured out quickly using interactive notebooks help her learn. We did spelling a little the last two years but not in great detail. I wanted something that breaks the rules down so she could learn to spell anything. This year we’ll concentrate mostly on her problem areas and review everything we’ve learned this year so she’ll stay on track or get just a little ahead. I usually keep going on all the subjects she loves until we get stuck lol 😂! If I sense some frustration, I pull back. I pray this works for us because I’ve tried 8 different spelling curriculums. I don’t want her to memorize words. Thanks for this video!!

Hi Caroline, I'm double minded Saxon 1-3 I've seen some reviews saying it's a grade level behind. How would this compare to something like Abeka Arithmetic? for grades 4 and up I'll definitely be using Saxon. Another KZbinr (Verity Ed) shared how she uses Abeka for grades 1-3 before starting Saxon 5/4. I guess what I'm trying to ask is does this lay a firm foundation for math without the need to supplement with another curriculum? hopefully I make some sense :)
@carolinescurriculumcorner466

Yes, Saxon K-3 is behind about a grade. Saxon K is more like preschool, Saxon 1 more like kindergarten, etc. Both of my kids started Math 54 toward the end of 3rd grade. Math 54 is definitely 4th grade level. It was hard for both of my kids to jump from Math 3 to Math 54 because much more was expected from them and it suddenly became much more challenging. My daughter really struggled with Saxon after Math 3. My son eventually adjusted to it and is now doing fine. I personally feel Abeka math moves a little too fast (at least it would have been for my kids). It's a great program if your child is good with math and is ok with the pace. :)

I haven't used Horizons, but I have flipped through some of the math books. They seem similar to Abeka, moving at a solid pace (at a faster pace than Saxon in the early elementary grades). I did my best to teach the kids their math facts. We used flash cards and fact sheets for practice. I think it's very helpful to have the facts memorized. Learning to skip count 1s through 12s was very helpful for my kids as well.
