Rest in peace To all my workers who spent extended shifts sorting through coal in coal heaps and burning wood into coal to feed the generator and everyone else could stay at home in the warmth during the storm, as well as to all the vigilantes, doctors and cooks who worked just as hard in the storm. Thanks to you, all the children, women and engineers were sitting in warm houses with heaters working 25 hours a day. Of the 177, only 130 remained.

Just so people know, the streams of rain you can see during the storm are liquid carbon dioxide. The air itself is liquefying during this exchange, the snow is not water but oxygen; condensed by the sheer cold and pressure before turning once more to gas upon hitting the ground or the wall of heat the generator is putting between you and certain death. You would be able to visibly see the generator fighting against the cold. A wall of white encroaching upon you all with everything beyond it frozen death.

I tried the game a few days ago, and man it was something: I'm not one who is good at video games, so normal was more than enough struggle for me: I had people on soup since day one, stocking up coal and food like a madman before the storm was even on the horizon - the only reason why I didn't use corpses as fertilizer was because I somehow only ended the run with 4 deaths. I never knew how much coal would be needed for the storm, or how cold it would get before I only had the machines to rely on: I remember saying to myself 'we won't rest until I see ten days on that ticker'. As the storm descended, with people's panic, I set up sawmills in the freezing cold for men to toil at for entire days to barely get enough wood for everyone to keep their homes warm. My paranoia, balanced by prayer and prostelitizing, arenas and public houses, came to cash out as the weather continued to drop: where everyone could stay huddled in homes and infirmaries, and as they overcrowded, I still remember the burst of hope I had when I realized I could destroy the hothouses to make place (and cores) for new sick beds - and that I could survive longer by only turning the generator on overdrive at night, relying on whate little warmth being awake gives you. The slippery morality of the game is really something: making you feel proud that children working in the cold are at least not getting arms broken off, that even with faithkeepers and public penances, and people prostelitizing the sin of man, at least you never became the new faith, right? It took me a bit to realize that I had practically created zealotry in all but written law, each step there to keep the people happy and the gears turning. The city survived, but at what cost? Whatever it had to.

i lost the first 10 times i played, then managed to finish the game once but just SCRAPING by, then when i played again, i simply aced it, when the storm hit i had almost 8k coal, 3k wood, 15 automatons, 5k food and almost 1k steel, smooth sailed the storm.

A good method to survive is focus on hot houses and coal mines and a hard press to make automatons early after getting an outpost setup at Tesla city for steam cores
@xts.moralita12262 ай бұрын
Automatons are the unsung heroes on my playthrough, lumbering on, mining and gathering the coal on the mines and thumpers despite impossible levels of cold. I like it how my people found relief on the automatons, while they're safe on their homes, the automatons kept working, not caring about the cold one bit. The scouts are MVP's too, trekking the frostland finding resources and saving people when the Great Storm was coming, I made sure to let them come home when all the refugees are safe in New London, they deserve it.

@leha42922 ай бұрын
what makes this game great is the fact that if you're starting off trying to be as kind and as nice as possible, trying not to kill or sacrifice your people ecetera, but at somepoint the cruel reality will hit you. it's impossible to survive without doing some absolutely horrifying stuff. the game pretty much forces you to do it, there is no other choice, because the city must survive at any cost
@vexn36993 ай бұрын
-150°C. The closest thing we have to such temperature in the real world, is liquid nitrogen. You go out in this cold, your vital functions will end in seconds. Poke your naked hand out the window for but five seconds in this climate, and there will be no saving it, you will need to amputate it. At -150°C, even the CO2 freezes, on a city powered by coal. The very hot air from our chimneys condenses and falls to the ground as soon as it enters in contact with this cold. If a storm like that were to truly happen, it would even freeze the gasses on our atmosphere. Our very sky would begin to rain down on us. Let me make this clear: this storm is a nightmare. And no matter how you did it, if your city did not fall, you worked a miracle. If people can judge you, it means they're alive. You saved them, even if you had to lose yourself. Even if it demanded sacrifice. You made the tough choices no one else would, and because of that, the city, and humanity as a whole, have a second chance. If you've done everything well enough, the automatons will work the mines and the greenhouses when the storm hits; everyone will have a roof and four walls to protect them from the cold, and the houses will be insulated; the hospitals will function through the storm, because people WILL get sick; your stockpiles will hold. Laws will remain humane. The city will survive. If you made a mistake, a single mistake, if you spent on something out of turn, if you didn't call for that extra shift, if you took too long to find a steam core, if you researched a technology too soon or too late... a cascade will begin. The cold will find your weakspot, It will expose the cracks in the walls, widen them into fissures, and attack them relentessly until, one by one, the systems fail. It starts with production. Then, with your stockpiles. And ends with the lives of your people. Unable to keep the city running, the generator dies. And at this point, there's nothing you can do. Nothing you can build, nothing you can research, no law you can pass, no overdrive you can turn on, no prayer left, no hope to be had. All you can do is watch as the last fires go out. And the city falls.

I live in Siberia, Russia. I remember playing this game when it was -60 degrees Celsius outside. When the Storm started in the game, I opened the window and the cold Mother-Siberia burst into my room. I swore that I would survive the Storm with my people, because I am the Captain of this ship and I will go down with him if necessary. It was cold, supplies were running low, The City Must Survive were blasting on a full volume, and I was sitting in front of the monitor and freezing. I literally started praying for the Storm to end (so I could close the window, lmao) And finally... the Storm stopped. We did it, we survived, the City made it! I closed the window and started smiling. The City survived, though not without losses. As Captain, I thanked all the remaining citizens for their steadfastness, I apologized to the dead for not saving them, saluted the City and turned Frostpunk off.
