GM are the best for the heater elbows, They will last a long time if installed properly. They have thicker 0 rings on them even though the elbows are plastic. The aluminum elbows at autozone and the plastic ones they sell have thin 0 rings on them and wont last very long

I believe to do this swap onto a vehicle prior to '04, you have to use a throttle body adapter. 04 and later used a fly by wire 4 bolt throttle body. '03 and earlier were drive by cable 3 bolt throttle body.

@@ob_gyn_inc There's no advantage to going with the aluminum manifold. Or the aluminum elbows. But I did those anyway. See...I do things "just 'cuz" sometimes too. However...it can EASILY be argued that plastic is a superior material in both applications. Using aluminum will cool the coolant flowing to/from your heater core, and heat up your intake air. Not smart. The extra rigidity, durability, or looks aren't worth it. The extra weight isn't either. Not one "good reason". That one style "maybe leaks less" is not actually a thing in my book. Seems like that's probably your angle. Whatever. You're probably not enough of a mechanic to know what kind of leaks are even worth fixing or not. Mine's fine with 97K on the factory plastic intake and gasket. It is the later "upgraded" plastic version though.
@ob_gyn_inc4 жыл бұрын
@@MetalMasterdom Great to know you were there with me looking over my shoulder when the plastic intake leaked coolant all over the fucking place. Guess I just should have hosed it off with some brake clean and gone about my business. Good thing there are such intelligent people in this world. GM knew their plastic intake was hot garbage by the time the early 00s rolled around and finally got shit right with the SIII top end. I put myself through college changing failed plastic intakes at several GM dealerships from 98-08 enough to know that I didn't want any part of replacing it with another revised plastic intake. I don't get paid to work on my personal vehicle so it 100% has to be reliable.

@ob_gyn_inc4 жыл бұрын
More or less it is. You'll need an adapter for the throttle body and to do a little trimming to the rear of the intake to clear the alternator. Also depending on what model year car you have, it may need some hoses re-routed.

Let me say that you are incredibly rude. My mother ran the place for years and had a "diluted southern drawl" because she is originally from Alabama-- and folks loved her. I happen to have the nasal Midwestern accent because they raised me primarily in South Haven after we moved back from the Azores Islands. My dad spent 12 years in the Air Force. If you were part of the drunken revelry at 2 am it is no wonder that you were not treated like royalty. No one wants to deal with a drunk at 2 am who doesn't have the sense to know they are being obnoxious and thinks what they say and do in a drunken stupor is funny. You may also not realize that this place scored very high with the health department at every single health inspection. I never once got "explosive diarrhea" from eating the food, and I ate there countless times throughout the years. Yes, there were some characters who worked there, but they made it a fun place to be. There were some really wonderful folks who graced the doors of Ma's, from truck drivers, to tourists, to business travelers and more. It's a shame your uninformed blather is scornful of this bustling little legend with folks waiting in line in the summer, tasty southern fare, fun times, shared laughter and heartbreak (yes, we lost employees and friends we loved), and where many of us got our start as first time employees. I went on to college, had a career and a different life, and now live in the mountains of East Tennessee. But I wouldn't trade the memories of growing up around Ma's Coffee Pot or the memories my children made at Ma's when we brought them home for visits, for anything. My mother did very well financially there (my dad worked in the nuclear field). We never wanted for anything and were very blessed. I also see this video has received 356 views so far. The tribute song I wrote for my precious mother, Ruth, who spent 42 years of her life at Ma's taking care of customers, who is alive and well at 81 years old, has gotten 35,557 views. Not a record, by far, but I am proud of this Christian lady with her "diluted southern drawl" and thank God for this little Valentine Diner so full of life where I had the opportunity to meet so many wonderful folks in beautiful South Haven, Michigan.

The valve body bore for the TCC lockup solenoid was worn allowing pressure loss keeping the TC clutch from staying locked while under load in 4th gear with the TCC applied. I wasn't about to remove the transmission to fix this. Very common problem with this transmission, the car is long gone after being sold to an indifferent owner who junked the car over the rear brake lines rusting out
@ColdWarVet6076 жыл бұрын
I also replaced plastic valve covers with Aluminum from 97 Camaro F-body, mirror polished them and UIM. Ohhh how can you put the L26 on and keep crappy plastic elbows? Sounded like that anyway, Dorman makes metal ones, you can also put hi-temp silicon around them to help protect leak from oring failure but I never leaked from elbows plastic or metal, 03 Impala.
@ob_gyn_inc6 жыл бұрын
At the time Dorman wasn't in the business of metal elbows. Had I to do it again, you bet I'd use metal elbows.

chickenofsea I bet you either have or will change them next time needed, you're more than qualified. What model/year is your car. I had 03 Impala and had to ditch the air box for a K&N cold air filer as the L26 top extended way out and it was impossible to get any sort of tube between airbox and TB, you have a nice straight shot! Get the aluminum valve covers from junkyard, buff'em up, it will seal much better, I've got zero oil drip over last 3 years from them, it will look great too. Party On!

yes bolts on perfectly, BUT.... you have to do a few things. Reroute the crank case vent on throttle body to L26. Normally the CCVent is soured in the TB and it routes internally thru it along side facing driver. The TB routes it out the bottom of TB to a passage way on the L36 plastic UIM. But the L26 doesn't have the same interface, so you need to drill a brass plug out of the TB, tread it and put a npt adapter in it and run a vacuum line tube from that port to a port stickin out the top of the L26. That L26 port routes down to LIM and will connect the CCVent to same place on the LIM. So in other words, you need to route the CCvent external of the TB to the L26. oNE OTHER TAP AND THREAD NEED ON A PORT ON l26 that was for EGR, just plug it, EGR routes as normal. See videos for top swap, plenty of them.

Michael Potts no problem. The hard shifts are normally caused by the ecm throwing a p1811 long shift code and tries to fix it by maxing out the line pressure. By installing the trans go kit the shifts are instant so the ecm is happy.

i have a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix GT w a 3800 supercharged engine. it has 50,000 mi on it. i am losing coolant. it is going into the combustion chamber, and leaking out of the exhaust. if i rev my engine with the radiator cap off, coolant with shoot out of the radiator. my oil looks fine, but it's had to tell because i change it quite often. i head that intake gaskets fail a lot on GM 3800 engines. i think that they tried to fix that problem before 2006, but i ain't sure. i do let my car idle for hours at a time though, and so i suspect that heat from all that idling caused a failure somewhere. i,m just trying to figure out if it's a • blown intake manifold gasket • blown head gasket • cracked head • cracked block GM used a cast iron block and heads on that car.
