Hi, Very impressed with the job. Well done. You don't happen to have a link for bearing races for the Impact Headset, do you? I am doing a 93 Lava Dome and can't find the right size readily available.

@bgr1978 cheers, mate. In terms of the replacement bearing race, my friend Joe was searching on eBay for months, and a set popped up. We were possibly looking at running loose bearings or popping out the bearings out the old race and trying to reuse it. It's super hard to find. Also found in that past, it's been cheaper to buy a donor bike for the parts required to finish a build. Are you missing the bearing race altogether?

It's all there save two bearings. The teeth on one side seem to have been crushed slightly, but I reckon I may be able to rescue it. The ultrasonic cleaner did a great job of cleaning it, but the balls went everywhere and nobody wants that!

Ritchey made a slick tire back in the day called Moby Bite 26"×2.1" I found 3 of them at a garage sale but anyhow I'll sometimes run one on the rear with a knobby up front, best of both worlds, as you know most of your weight falls on the rear tire so the slick makes the bike haul ass while the knobby up front does its thing, I'll take the penalty for the mismatched tires but it is so much fun, keep up the good work the past 2 were super tight.

@BikeShedBoy
@BikeShedBoy 10 күн бұрын
@boxhampton I can start adding in cost and a better breakdown of costs in future videos. I have a video dropping tomorrow, and I'll be sure to add more of a full cost up from start to finish. Channel is still growing, and I am still learning, so advice is always welcome. I would say this build was about a 1k build set over a year, and parts brought and collected over the last few years, so it's hard to put a 100% cost on this. However, some would say it was not worth it, but this is now at a new condition and will live for the next 30 years plus with all the protection and rust proofing. Feel free to follow me on Instagram, and we can always chat about this in more detail 👍

I've got a D-Jab I bought in '96. I was about to do its fourth rebuild. Got all the bits. Stripped the frame. Cleaned it up. Found a crack in the weld between the BB tube and drive side chain stay. Should be fixable as it's only in the weld, but can I find anyone over here to weld it? Can I..... Also, the bottom bracket seems to have welded itself in. Nothing will shift it. It's currently marinading in an ATF/acetone mix. Fingers crossed. Otherwise it becomes a wall ornament.

Awwww, mate, sorry to hear about the issues. In terms of the BB being stuck, use full fat coke cola and fill the bb from the seat tube. That will get it unstuck. I have used that method many times. I would call a few car garages that do welding work as sometimes they will take on a job like that for a small fee, especially when it get vlose to winter and work dies down. Keep me posted on progress, mate 👍

@@BikeShedBoy Thanks. I'll give it a Coke and hope for the best. I've sent out messages to various welding shops, but unfortunately I'm in Sweden. They tend to get a bit scared of anything that's even slightly off piste - not the most creative/flexible lot unfortunately. If they weld cars, they weld cars. And you try telling them that metal is metal is metal. And not many bike builders. I'll persevere. I may end hopping on a Ryanair with it. Thanks again and I'll keep you updated. It's a great frame - I love the old Joe Murray frames - but it is old. Doesn't even have disc brake braze ons. That one in your video is a young whippersnapper by comparison :-)
