it would be better if the lodge used the other system, without having to dismantle the whole station. should use the system that uses ambient Waters, should only blunt the anemometer with a screw.

Your fix worked perfectly! Someone on here suggested removing the bearing E-clip, which I did, before freeing up and oiling the bearing. It required a bit of patience to get it back on down that little cone but it is possible and much cleaner repair. I'm not as confident as you that the oil-repair will have longevity so I ordered a sealed SS bearing to replace it next time (if needed). THANKS so much for taking the time to tell us of your diagnosis and repair!

What size bearing is it? I am planning to replace that when I open mine to figure out why it sometimes doesn't give a reading despite spinning freely. I do wonder if the sealed bearings would give a slower wind speed reading than the open bearings though, because working with RC hobby grade trucks I discovered that the seals do add a little bit more 'drag' compared to the open counterparts. That may be negligible though...

I have had two of these units seize up on the anemometer. When I di the as the video, I found I could not free up the bearing just using WD40 with the wind cups still on the unit. I had to remove the bearing to get it to free up. The bearing is held in by a single E clip. Once removed, the wind cups can be removed from the bearing and the bearing will drop out for easier work. Take care when removing the E clip. It is very small and easily lost! My unit is now back in service. Thanks for the basic video.

Full for now, but do not rest on laurels. World weather at present, is catastrophic, warning signs of what's yet to come, to say nothing of the present virus warning. Mindsets need to change, reliance of fossil fuels and devastating livestock 'food' farming, is fueling unpredictable weather events, second warning, that of the virus. We have to examine what we eat, use and purchase, deforestation for cattle production, soil, fresh water, air and sea pollution, biodiversity, on the brink of collapse. We have to worldwide, hold politicians to account for their lack of educational public information in helping us change. VOTE, for what we want to see happen, not them!
