Rewatching this, you were almost spot on. Still managed to overestimate the ANC, despite them having a very consistent track record of underperforming. Slightly underestimated the DA, but within the margin, overestimated the EFF considerably and I grant that MK is an anomaly so I don't blame you for underestimating them a bit. Your provincial analisys was spot on, though, despite again overestimating the ANC in Gauteng

Given this jargonist having had the opportunity to have traveled politically via the ANC youth school from Peter Mokaba with Julius Economic Looser Malema into the EFF youth development program now running into the MK - the last attempt to survive politically! Never at any point and time ever spoke of Zionist nor of Zionism, Zionist financial institutions rule South Africa instead of this bla bla bla cock and bull bla bla bla…. For what are these so called political Analysts afraid to directly address the real issues that control the capital market instead of this bla bla bla

I wish a coalition of MK +ANC + EFF so that they will hold everyone accountable and reshuffle the bias constitution court judges DA should be opposition party. They need to forge a way of expropriation without compensation of the land and try level the grounds across colour line, they need to agree to bring back Brian Molefe as a chairperson of Eskom board and also bring back Matshela David Koko as a CEO at Eskom

COALITIONS: A CRITICAL JUNCTURE IN OUR POLITICAL LANDSCAPE The ANC receiving less than 50% of the national vote is not only beneficial but also crucial for the health of South African politics. This scenario fosters accountability and the development of a functional state. The 2024 elections hold significant stakes, including economic growth, service delivery, and infrastructural development. Economic growth is imperative for creating millions of jobs, alleviating poverty, transitioning from a welfare state, generating tax revenue, and embarking on major infrastructural projects. This growth necessitates the availability of energy, technology, and affordable internet connectivity. Advancing service delivery, such as providing clean drinking water and functional sanitation, is essential. Strengthening law enforcement agencies, which were weakened during former President Jacob Zuma’s tenure, must be expedited. Additionally, overhauling our basic education system is crucial to produce graduates who can be readily absorbed into the job market. These challenges have plagued South Africa for the past 15 years, and unfortunately, the ANC has failed to address them effectively. The ANC, along with the MK Party, appears to lack the will to tackle these issues. Consequently, these parties cannot be trusted to bring about positive change. THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM South Africa remains a highly polarized and unequal country, largely due to its political history. There is a narrative that former President Zuma exploited ethnic divisions during his time in the ANC and continues to do so. The validity of this claim is debatable. If true, it could exacerbate the existing problems created by apartheid, posing further challenges for the country. Our politics are still driven by personalities and racial dynamics, often lacking in common sense, rationality, and objectivity. These factors hinder inclusivity and progressive development. The practice of cadre deployment by both the ANC and the DA deprives the country of the best talents and opportunities for racial integration. South Africa has many qualified individuals who could significantly improve service delivery, economic growth, and infrastructural development if employed in critical government positions at national, provincial, and municipal levels. A CHALLENGING COALITION DYNAMICS The EFF's unexpected performance in these elections complicates potential coalitions. ANC/MK Party Coalition: A coalition between the ANC and the MK Party is not what South Africa needs. The MK Party, formed out of vengeance and driven by personalities rather than policy, is fundamentally an anti-Ramaphosa faction of the ANC. Their involvement in the ANC's failures over the past 15 years makes them an unsuitable partner for positive change. The infighting within the ANC has already harmed the country, and a coalition with the MK Party would likely exacerbate this. ANC/DA Coalition: Ideally, an ANC-DA coalition could quickly address the country's needs. However, their ideological differences, especially regarding affirmative action, black economic empowerment, and land appropriation, make such a partnership unlikely and difficult to justify. ANC/EFF/IFP/PA Coalition: This appears to be the most viable coalition for the ANC at both national and provincial levels, given the policy alignments among these parties. They would need to manage the PA’s rhetoric on foreigners and reward coalition partners with cabinet posts while policing each other against corruption. Utilizing BRICS strategically could also benefit the coalition. In conclusion, South Africa stands at a critical juncture, and the upcoming elections will play a pivotal role in shaping the country's future. Effective coalitions, focusing on accountability, economic growth, and inclusive development, are essential for overcoming the challenges that have long plagued the nation.

Interesting analysis and it certainly does give me a broader appreciation about the PA and my coloured brothers and sisters affinity for this party. As a Gay Coloured man the PA does not resonate with me and they do not align to my values or liberal political views but I take my hat off to them.. 🤞🤞🤞

Jacob Zuma's popularity in his native province of KwaZulu Natal has got more to do with the collective memory that the population of KwaZulu Natal has of Jacob Zuma's central role in bringing an end to the very violent armed conflict the apartheid government sought to stoke in order to start a civil war in that province in the early 1990s, which saved thousands of lives. In addition, there is a commonly held perception (rightly or wrongly) that Jacob Zuma's economic policies are pro poor. That’s just one example. If someone does not know, let alone understand, these simple and commonly understood facts about the perceptions of his supporters then they stand very little chance of understanding Jacob Zuma as a political force in KwaZulu Natal and South Africa more generally.

ANC brought it on themselves. This was noted miles away ,to the election2024. Cyril Ramaphosa knew signing bills into the law isnt so beneficial, voles to elections. The last tactic was R350 going upto R750 , wouldve lifted the spirits of poor souls . SELF CENTREDNESS in the last government saw ANC on their knees, thats how the nation was before elections...Lets welcome a realistic change for SA.

I am happy to be a 27 year old first time voter and to have participated in this historical election. Seeing the ANCs arrogance not only challenged but humbled, incredible. I hope that there is actual change, competent and willing leaders who will really put the people first and make SA reach its full potential.

Thanks for the wonderfully clear explanations that make politics accessible, interesting without resorting to hysterical and overly dramatic narratives. Episode request: what does this election mean for women in SA? Only one of the parties that I know of had a woman in the lead position, and some parties (MK if I am not mistaken) campaigning on teenage girls to be sent to Robbin Island. How does the spread of women representation in parliament look? And what would it take for woman to politically have some power, 30 years into democracy?

He was sacrificed by the DA because of he's lack of consistency. But he's right by parties must come togather to form one entity. But the fact that he doesn't recognize the redress approach then he won't be able to gaine the messes buy in. The land issues and mineral resources issues must be addressed.
