Eta James! That's a difficult song for those instruments but they carried it perfectly. "...then the spell was cast And here we are in heaven For you are mine At last" Considering our American political scene, I do hope that we aren't disappointed.

My favorite song done so elegantly.

I always felt this song had a classical quality about it. The opening melody sounds very European classical while the solo portion sounds almost Japanese/Asian. The way you transition from the verses section, through the build up and into the solo portion was seamless and masterful. What a remarkable composition both in terms of the chordal arrangement and also the slide guitar and vocal melodies. The way you interlaced them all takes the piece to new heights. And let's not forget Powell's iconic piano (which you also incorporated). This is a perfect example of hearing a song in a completely different way and walking away with an even greater appreciation. One has the opportunity to hear the music more from a compositional perspective and less as a traditional song. Great work!

lovely (though unfortunately a little fast, as mentioned.) i too wanted this to be the piece played at my wedding before the service started.. not sure my wife would agree, though. i dont know if you know the context of this song, but this groom’s request to have it play suggests a deeply personal relationship to Dark Souls. A moment’s peace (called “Souls of Fire” by the community until the official song title was given) plays when you create your character and load your game. when you are creating your character, it heralds a journey of great mystery and possibility. when loading your game, it soothes you, a familiar oasis of momentary warmth before plunging back into the dark and seemingly cruel deep. dark souls has often been framed by players as allegorical to struggling against depression, of squaring up to lift immovable objects. indeed i frequently return to it in these moments of despair. why this is the case is complex, something i am compelled at times to elucidate, but am not fully certain i understand. what i do know is that the practiced discipline required to succeed in the game is taught to you by the mechanics and design, as if by a benevolent, if distant, mentor. only when you cast off all denial and accept the fact of your fallibility, of your failure, the fact of your death and dying, over and over, can you find the calm, focus, and peace, to dance with the enemies and eventually overcome them. i see parallels here to how one learns to tolerate cold water immersion it is for these reasons that i consider dark souls one of the great triumphs of 21st century media, and possibly the most compelling reason video games deserve to be recognized as art, if art is about what it is to be a human being
