Such a great feel James. Love the sound of Post Metal... next on my list. I like how your foot is back on the KT-10, I do the same thing. There's a sweet spot there. Really inspiring playing and tune. Thanks!

Thanks a lot, Jeff. I'm not sure why I started playing that far back on the kick pedal, but it feels natural for me. You're right, it does feel like the sweet spot back there.

thanks for the video, I have a question, how do you setup the hihat? I have a hihat pedal, but it's not a Roland. I connected it to the Hi-Hat Ctrl input into my SPD SX PRO, but it doesn't work. It doesn't send any signal and I can't open or close the pedal. thank you.
@jamesrichardsutton16 күн бұрын
Hi Eduardo. I recommend starting with a hi-hat controller pedal that is supported by the SPD-SX PRO. Here’s a Roland support article with more info: support.roland.com/hc/en-us/articles/13853733551899-SPD-SX-PRO-Using-a-pedal-as-Hi-Hat-control-pedal

thanks: question, i like the way you set up the pads on the spdxpro, practical this way, but what if you need to play 16ths (double handed) on the hihat pad?
@jamesrichardsuttonАй бұрын
In a case where that would be required, I'd probably sacrifice the tom on pad 4 with a duplicate of the hi-hat config on pad 6.
@tendingtropic7778Ай бұрын
great stuff, may i ask what hihat pedal you are using? fd8?

Nice setup and performance. Are you using the SPD-SX-PRO or the edrumin10 for 'controlling' the VH11? I'm debating the best way for tracking midi performances - a 'compact' kit in the SPD-SX-PRO or a full conversion with the edrumin10... I've noted your other videos on the SPD-SX-PRO; but in general do you get 'enough' hihat control with the SPD-SX-PRO?
@jamesrichardsuttonАй бұрын
Thanks, Andrew. If memory serves in this case, I was using the eDRUMin as a MIDI interface for all of the cymbals, including the VH11. The VH11 works fine to trigger EZDrummer when using the SPD-SX PRO as your MIDI interface, but for me, I was able to get the VH11 to feel better when using the eDRUMin due to its finer controls.

I have an almost identical version of the 7x12 from 2005. Same holographic white honeycomb but the badge and air vent are in different locations. Purchased it used for $250 Cad. Which is a steal for a drum of this quality. After 30+ years of playing, it's the only snare I own.

Thanks for a great video! I’m building a practice kit with some old drums, mesh heads and triggers. Now that you been using the SPD-SX Pro for a while would you recommend it as the module in that way or should I go for something lika TMS-6 Pro?
@jamesrichardsuttonАй бұрын
Thank you! Between the SPD-SX Pro and the TM-6, you'd want to consider the input count and whether having the additional pads would be worth the extra cost. I own a TM-6 and it's a great MIDI interface for playing libraries on your computer, however it's a bit dated at this point. Based on the prices at Sweetwater currently, I would go with the SPD-SX Pro since it has many more applications than just a MIDI interface.

@jamesrichardsutton2 ай бұрын
Thank you! I have to say that mainly it's the fancy Pork Pie drum. The hybrid shell is half ash (snare side) and half aluminum. I have a dozen snare drums and since I got this thing last summer, I can't stop using it. It's so easy to dial it into a mix.

What drum heads are those on your toms?
@jamesrichardsutton3 ай бұрын
Hey, Mark. So the rack toms and the first floor have clear Emperors with clear Ambassadors on the bottom. Second floor has an Evans EMAD and also a clear Ambassador as a reso. I’m also using Remo tone control rings. Hope that helps.

@ The tone control rings on the toms were confusing, I thought they were part of the head and I’d never seen that before.

Hi James, this is truly awesome. I was thinking of doing something similar. Would you mind telling me some of the learning curves you had to go through for learning to play the kit in quite a small surface area? Do you get used to it quite quick? Thanks!

p.s. really nice track too!
@jamesrichardsutton5 ай бұрын
@@StephanSeiler2 Thank you, Stephan. Honestly, it didn't take me long at all to get used to. Sure, it was a little awkward at first, but once I figured out the placement of each instrument that felt best for me (hats on pad 6, floor tom on pad 9, etc.), I was soon thinking less about the small playing area, and more about the drum parts I was playing.
