Turnip root that size makes excellent Jack-o-laterns. After carving the turnip, the inner veggie will make a wonderfully delicious pie along with onion, leek, potatoe and carrots. Nothing goes to waste. Enjoy with colcannon.

Interesting but what’s the advantage of hydro farming as opposed to growing it the usual way? 🤔
@ShawnaCoronado5 ай бұрын
Advantages of Hydroponic Gardening Over Soil Gardening: Hydroponic gardening, where plants grow in a nutrient-rich solution instead of soil, offers several advantages for home gardeners: Faster Growth: Plants can grow up to 50% faster in hydroponic systems due to the constant access to nutrients and water. Higher Yields: Hydroponic systems can produce higher yields per square foot compared to soil gardening, making them more efficient for limited space. Precise Nutrient Control: You can precisely control the nutrient levels in the solution, ensuring optimal growth conditions for your plants. Reduced Water Consumption: Hydroponic systems can use significantly less water compared to traditional soil gardening, as the nutrients are delivered directly to the plant roots. Pest and Disease Control: The controlled environment of hydroponic systems can help prevent many common pest and disease problems. Year-Round Growing: With indoor hydroponic setups, you can grow plants year-round, regardless of the outdoor climate. Space Efficiency: Hydroponic systems can be designed to be vertical or stacked, allowing you to grow more plants in a smaller space. Reduced Weeds: There are no weeds to compete with your plants in a hydroponic system. While hydroponic gardening offers many benefits, it does require more initial investment and ongoing maintenance compared to soil gardening. However, for those seeking a more efficient and controlled growing environment, hydroponics can be a rewarding option.

Yes, and however many ridges are on the outside are how many "spines" are on the inside. They are actually called "Ribs" and are the skeleton of the saguaro 😊

Hi! I'm planning to cover the entire 2 acres of lawn with this plant so no grass will grow anymore. Since it's May and grass is growing, should I wait until winter when grass dies and then throw the seeds in spring? Or can I just throw this invasive species onto the grass and hopefully Ajuga will grow on top of the grass?
@ShawnaCoronado8 ай бұрын
While ajuga is definitely an aggressive species, I often had problems with grass growing up and through it. I would have to "weed" the ajuga, which took a lot more time than just mowing a lawn. I would consider ajuga a LOT of maintenance in the conditions you are describing. So first I would caution you that the groundcover can work to keep grass down, BUT it will not entirely smother grass. I would solarize your lawn in order to kill the grass entirely first or have the grass dug out completely first before trying to lay down ajuga seed. When winter happens, your grass has not died, it has just gone dormant -- it will be back in full force in the spring. Throwing a few seeds on top of that will probably just result in a mixed lawn of part ajuga and part grass. Groundcover needs open soil to spread effectively. My best advice is to reach out to a horticulturist at a local university extension office to discuss this enormous changeover with 2 acres of lawn. Weeding 2 acres of ajuga is going to be a huge chore.

You haven't made any large cactus cuttings yet have you. This is why you need a wood saw for the big cuttings. They're VERY hard, worse than some wood.

This is gonna sound real crazy but here on earth only the things with eyes and nerves have bones. The hard long stuff that is stuck to the ground with a green colour is called a plant and it had what we call "wood" instead of having bones like we do. All plants have a stem, even the weird ones with spikes called cactus. If you cut of the top of a pilar like cactus you will se the stem, it looks like a round ring or oval. It is there to shuffle water, take up nutrients from the roots aswell as being the support for the whole plant. The ridges around the stem are actually evolved from leaves!

How do you cut all the flowers? Wow? What happens if you don't deadhead the flower ? It looks beautiful !!
@ShawnaCoronado Жыл бұрын
I just cut the flowers at the base with snippers, but you could also use a weed wacker, being careful to cut above the leaf line. If you don't deadhead the flowers, they just dry up and look like sticks. Eventually they blend in with the rest of the plant.
@chameeher879 Жыл бұрын
Oh man.. That's a lot of work to deadhead all those flower. But it sure looks beautiful.

@ShawnaCoronado Жыл бұрын
Yes, but it has to grow roots first, so place your trims in a glass of water or deep them in rooting hormone and place in seed starting soil to get the roots going.
