I've been getting really into natural dyeing for the last 6 months or so and was able to get a nice medium blue with green undertones using Buckthorn berry skins at a 1:1 WOF in an acidic bath (4-5pH). You can get more of a sky blue with exhaust baths or smaller ratio. It is truly a labor of love though because you have to squeeze out all of the insides of the berries, give the skins a quick rinse, then weigh and do a stovetop extraction. It's a fun color but is probably not a color I would ever do for a sweater quantity just because of the labor involved. The stuff you squeeze out from the berries makes a really nice and bright green apple green so that's worth keeping and using too.

Very much looking forward to crocheting this! Trying to work down a large yarn stash!🧶 Discovered you through Ali's “Little Drops of Wonderful.” 🥰 So glad to hear your thoughts about CROCHET! I’m a learning knitter, but Crochet is my comfort zone. I have felt that Crochet is “the poor step-sister” to knitting. Before I learned to knit, I was the only crocheter in a local knitting group….😋

It definitely can feel like that sometimes! I do both, but I so dislike the stigma around crochet. All the yarn is for everybody & and all the fiber arts are ART!

Your fabric on your dress is also a type of double gauze, but it's bubble gauze because when you wash it and let it dry, it has a bubbly texture, whereas some double gauze, such as Japanese double gauze can be perfectly flat.

I can confirm that hydrangeas are a pH sensitive flower and acid makes pink. Also, pretty sure your marigold + iron really is marigold. The green looks like what I'm familiar seeing with marigold + iron.

I think the Dandelion stitch is PERFECT for a vertical top (side to side) creation!! I’m here for the tank pattern release! Re stripes: you could have 3 stripes on each sleeve (bicep area on one, lower arm on other) and/or lower body stripes (3 to match…or not)! Stripes, for some reason, seem to make knitting work up faster…hmm Your sewing is great! Only you can see the “oopsies”. Math-ing is everywhere, and I love playing with math. My problem is trying to create (using knitting) a 3-D vision in my head & then mapping out onto paper (2-D). Pre-internet, pre-KZbin… I did a lot of library research, and called on friends who had kids in high school for their math/geometry/ knowledge! Thanks for another peek at my new fave: Dandelion stitch! Underarm shaping is (or can be) a challenge, especially for a tighter fitting garment. Can’t wait for a tank pattern❤️❤️!!

Its great to be original and creative. I knit & crochet. I prefer knitting because it's finer and uses less yarn. I learned much from patterns & zoom courses to make a few cardigans and tops. Enough to go further on any Ravelry knit. I used to sew and learned from mom as well in school. That was last done 30 years ago! I recently gave my girl my machine and bought a new one for myself. I joined as well a sewing course that teaches pattern making and styling as well before the sewing steps. I am on my 3rd class of 14. I highly recommend investing in something you love to do. And learn & frog till you understand it. It takes time and experience. Goodluck. It is Fun.

Hear you! In the past, I made a thing (knit) that could only be tried on when shaping etc was complete. Frogged many times, adding adjustments… No. More. I’ll make a top or sweater w a true pattern, modifying after to suit. Can’t help you with sewing. Perhaps a nearby fabric shop has classes? I really like the tank tops! I plan on knitting a top/camisole or two (well… have yarn + pattern ready…) My problem: I’m mentally modifying the pattern BEFORE I’ve made the thing. Sheesh! Because fingering weight, bottom up (so no trying on til done, boo-hoo), and maybe I’ll crochet a top, much faster! But, that gauge & size bit … sigh Keep trying allll the things that make you happy! Eventually you’ll get the sewing figured out! I bounce between knit and crochet when those frustrating “oopsies” or “ugh” fit issues crop up. Knit issue? Crochet a tote or basket. Anywho, good luck & be sure to have fun!

Citric acid and vinegar are not mordants. They are binders which change the pH of the water (more acidic) to help the colour bind to the yarn / fabric. But this effect doesn't last, so the colour will wash out or fade pretty quickly. Real mordants assist the dye to chemically bind to the yarn/fabric. Also, you should always keep jars, pots or utensils used for dyeing separate to those you use for food. You talked about safety and then used hydrangea which is toxic!

PJs. Kitties. Yarn. Yup! I watch whenever you post! Had to laugh re counting… yes, I too forget how to count. And I mean between 2 and 15. Sheesh. I’m working on a picot bind off (shawl)… CO 2, BO 4. No audiobooks or vids, until I finish. Which is okay, cuz I ALWAYS have ends to weave in (socks-lots of), always have easy-peasy pick up whenever project (which includes more socks)… Flower Fields… love those bright happy colors in the shawl! Now I want that exact color scheme! Surely there’s something in stash, right?? maybe? Baby bootees are such fun! I made up my own (garter) pattern years ago & keep in a ziploc bag. Handy when I see/meet a wee little one! Thanks for a few giggles, inspiration, and kitty!

Having the hardest time catching up with podcasts, mom life lol. I’m so excited about the upcoming design with that beautiful yarn! I recently treated myself to the Knitter’s Pride Sweet Affair needle set. It also comes with a full skein of yarn and 3 minis, I couldn’t figure out what I wanted the main yarn to be but I think this shawl pattern might be it. It’s mainly green yarn with pink, white and blue. I hope it’ll give the same meadow vibes that your yarn does! I’m crying at the diaper changing chicken! That’s hilarious

This video has provided me with much-needed clarity. I'm thankful for the wisdom imparted in this video. What inspired the theme of using natural dyes to create rainbows in your podcast episode, and how do you incorporate this theme into your crochet and knitting projects? As someone who runs a dream interpretation channel, how can the colors and symbolism of rainbows in crafting be interpreted in dreams? I appreciate the creativity and unique content of your podcast, and I've liked and subscribed for more inspiring episodes.
