Wonderful film, though I did notice a lot of 50 star American flags, which are anachronistic as the USA only had 48 stars at the end of WW2.

It's a noble effort and Gondry should be praised for putting so much energy into filming and recording Noam Chomsky. Unfortunately Gondry's English-speaking abilities are... "French", at best, and it's just not enough. Listening to him fumble his questions with his incomprehensible mouth-noise is draining and it is clearly a difficulty for Chomsky as well, who keeps having to repeat himself because his interlocutor just doesn't understand a useful quarter of the words coming back at him... To make matters worse, Gondry often argues with Chomsky on the mere basis of his confusion about the meaning of a particular word which, again, can be exhausting to watch. On the other hand, kudos again to Gondry for accepting to expose this level of imperfection on his part to his public. People familiar with Noam Chomsky may still enjoy the piece and people unfamiliar with him may enjoy discovering his kind, patient, and humanist intelligence. One seemingly insignificant question by Gondry, however, leads to what I still consider, years later, to be one of the most important answers ever given to an opaque problem, and it is one answer I think about nearly every day of my life. The question asks Chomsky why it seems like so many people are steeped in nostalgia about the past and often feel that "things were better before". Gondry admits that Chomsky took his answer to an unpredictable place as he begins to discuss agricultural experiments in Liberia, and ties them to a broader consideration about the difference between traditional societies, and the world, post industrial revolution. Fascinating. Overall, that segment alone wipes away any negativity I may feel toward Gondry's massacre of the English language. Great stuff.
