Velvety of gut string's sound quality can be heard here...if steel strings were used, it was going to sound like bells! in any case old instrument had no steel strings but gut or silk but sadly I don't know any authentic production of silk strings. For gut strings we have Aquila here in Europe...and more!

this dotar never uses gut, but silk.

@@ahlefan Salam! interesting, I wish I could find his supplier to try it one of my Dotars and one of my Tanburs! gut string sounds already amazing on a 150 years old tanburs of mine!

Thank you Jean for sharing this masterpiece. I'm a Baloch by cast, and listened this and love this, but I could never understand it's purpose. Can you please let us know what does Guâti mean and what does Guâti mât do, overall what was the purpose of this guâti music and gathering? I mean, was that arranged for some certain purpose? Thank you ❤

salam. guât is an invisible "wind", a spirit which sometimes makes people sick. To neutralise it you must play special tunes (guâti sâz) and induce trance. Then, the khalife or guâti mât can deal with it, and release the patient. In Iran they confuse guâti and damal (zikr) dedicated to saints (Abdolqâder or Shahbaz Qalandar). Damal also heals people and chases jinns; but it can be done as a devotional zikr or samâ which is has also healing effect. The melodies are different for guât (who are africans) and muslim saints. Allâh al-alim.

The greatest in the 20th c. was Dor Mohammad. For zahirig playing , was Razulbaksh and Ghafur Kolanchi (from Nalent). For all styles and genres, Alijân (Aliok). In his own style, Omar from Sor was great and powerful. For knowledge : the late Karimbaksh Nuri. Tell me who are the tiop soruzi by now. Thanks
