I’m teaching myself to swim and did my first 20m at an extremely terrible pace. I am going to try these improvements and hopefully pace will improve.

Thanks ! I’m 61 & have always been able too swim ( I learned so young I don’t even recall learning !) must have been age 2-3 - anyway I was always on water growing up lake house etc . Now I want to swim as exercise bc of my age and I love water - sadly all the “masters swim “ ppl are pros at my gym & most are triathletes! So I wasted a year membership thinking I could go to MS workouts and learn to do simple lap swimming -that’s not what masters swim is in case anyone is considering it - I then paid a swim coach to simply help me swim correct form - but she was young and only taught little non swimming kids ! So that’s another waste - It seems like a lot of adults my age never leaned to swim “properly “ I’d think it would be a gold mine to only teach adults . But I ended up here and the first 3 rules ( hand hits , thumb thigh etc ) was great ! Thanks ! I can actually practice this in the am

I’m a lifeguard and I swim three hundreds once a month (in services) mainly I do breaststroke because I struggle and some free alternating. It tires me out. I teach young children how to get comfortable in the water and inform them of how to be safe etc. I do not teach advanced things because I cannot dive off blocks, properly do dolphin kicks, or butterfly I would love to though. I do not have good form I look horrid when I swim. But he’ll I can still do it, just doesn’t look pretty. I have watched hundreds of hours of people in the water and can instantly tell how someone will swim based on cues. How you act before you enter the water, how you swim in warm ups, how well you consider certain times. One of the easiest being how they look too. (Even that can be deceiving though, we have the football kids come those people are jacked but can’t swim for shit it’s so entertaining to guard those I take those shifts every year.) I know good swimmers when I see them basically. I really want to have good form and do well it’s just so embarrassing to be horrible and know it yet have to try to get good results knowing how behind you are. I’m grateful for videos like these to help me I want to improve myself and go to a gym and just swim. I want to be better at it and hope it goes well! Also if you want my opinion that guys swimming is ok his rotary breathing is alright that’s not bad he looks relaxed, can’t see if he’s releasing air underwater, his body roll is what needs the most work. He also doesn’t go straight seems to veer, his speed is good and consistent kick is good but would be better with good body roll.

I agree. It is great to see kids for the first time be able to learn some basics and apply it. After that practicing will help them a lot. Proud of them for learning and seeking to better their swimming skills.

@trainingwithmatt
@trainingwithmatt 2 жыл бұрын
@@shapho4056 For me quality is a big part of swimming laps. I would recommend starting off with a certain number of laps that you can maintain proper form & breathing. Once the breathing or form falls apart then stop and rest and then do the same number of laps. Are you swimming in a 25 yard pool or smaller pool?
@trainingwithmatt
@trainingwithmatt 2 жыл бұрын
Great point. Yes 25 yard pool. Age is a big part of technique too. Kids usually don't have the patience to maintain too much. Luckily water (fluid resistant) is constant and their maximum force production is low that injuries are less and endurance is lower so breaks between laps is great. Also duration of a practice is less to help bridge the gap between form & endurance.

Crispin Munoz i want to know where he got this ‘breathing template’ from. Cause as a swimmer i know a crazy amount of swimmers form the amount of competitions i go to and not one of them, be it ether sprinter, middle distance or long distance, that uses 3,6,9 if anything with a longer distance you go from high to low and only go back up if you have the energy, and a 50m sprinter barely wants to breath

In my experience there were too many instructors who don't know how to deal with people who are afraid of water and in our macho culture display undisguised contempt for those who are. They think that all they need is a few lessons in how to swim and they're ready for the deep end. This can increase the learner's fear and drive him away from swimming. Overcoming the fear of deep water is a huge hurdle takes a lot of time and a lot of courage to overcome. A lot of skilled swimmers can't seem to understand this.

Abbas i know right. This hurts to watch as it’s all good and well doing catch up, but you need to correct his body and head position if you have any hopes of his stroke actually improving. I am a competitive swimmer btw, for over 5 years so this isn’t some thing i dont know about, but I’m just like why waste the time on something so minor compared to the body position.

100% correct. I thought the uploader had other videos how to correct the technique for people with improper technique, but he did not. There is another video of a different kid doing the kicks with bad form, and even in that one, the narrator does not even mention improving it. Imagine how much better the kids would be if the flutter kicks were addressed from the beginning.
