I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God. In Him I will trust. Psalm 91:2

My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought! My sin, not in part but the whole, Is nailed to His cross, and I bear it no more, Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul! Probably the best words in the entire hymn. The man who wrote those words (and the song) lost his son to scarlet fever, his investments in the Great Chicago Fire, and his 4 daughters in a shipwreck, and yet, because of "1st, 2nd, and last", and it has to be like that every single time (with very rare exceptions perhaps), you refuse to sing it. If the pastor or a guest preacher can spend 45 minutes or up to an hour or more on a sermon, you can spend 30 seconds slightly more on another verse. I do not get it, I just don't.

Just habit and routine, that verses are skipped. Whoever leads the music ought be ashamed of this. It's always 1st, 2nd, and last. I don't know who started "We'll sing the first, second, and the last, but whoever did, I sure wish they hadn't. Time is more of an excuse than a fact. It takes not even another minute in most cases. Every verse is there for a reason. You miss out on a very important doctrine that the writer is trying to teach when you don't sing them. 2 verses here are missing: Verse 3 I’m possessed of a hope that is steadfast and sure, Since Jesus came into my heart! And no dark clouds of doubt now my pathway obscure, Since Jesus came into my heart! Verse 4 There's a light in the valley of death now for me, Since Jesus came into my heart! And the gates of the City beyond I can see, Since Jesus came into my heart!

Sing all 4 verses. In Baptist churches, many claim its due to time that not all the stanzas are sung. Now I know that many churches quit singing the hymns a long time ago (which is not good, at all), but there's no reason to try to move the service along, and you miss important doctrines that the writer is teaching when you skip verses. Every one of the stanzas are there for a reason. 3rd verse of "It it well", is probably the best verse of that one "My sin not in part, but the whole - is nailed to the cross...".
